Hike to Mt. Rysy (2499 m/2503 m) from Štrbske Pleso with kids | Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras)

Mount Rysy (Polish peak 2,499 m / Slovak peak 2,503 m) is a mountain within the Eastern High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry/Tatry Wysokie) and lies on the border of Poland and Slovakia. The Rysy is Poland’s highest mountain. The summit can be climbed from both countries. On the 12th of August 2022, we climbed the Rysy from the Slovak side. We parked our car along the road (€10 in 2022) at 600 meters from the train station ‘Popradské Pleso’ (1,227 m), just East from Štrbske Pleso. We started our hike at 8:23 am and arrived at Popradské Pleso at 9:20 am. We continued or route through Mengusovská dolina and reached Chata pod Rysmi (2,230 m) two hours later at 11:23 am, and finally the summit of the Rysy at 12:05 pm (total climb duration incl. breaks 3h42min). From the summit, you have a spectacular view over the Eastern High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry) and Belianske Tatry. The path to the summit is very accessible and easy, at least from the Slovak side. Starting around Štrbske Pleso makes the altimeters that need to be climbed to reach the summit quite doable, especially for experienced hikers. Unfortunately, this also makes the mountain (and the trails) very crowded, but in the end we were lucky to find a quiet spot at the eastern side of the summit for lunch where we could enjoy the magnificent view. At 13:00 pm, we started our descent, ate a garlic soup and drank Kofola at the mountain hut and continued our hike from there towards the car (arrival at 16:50 pm).

great video, thank You! most people say Rysy hike is not for kids, is it for real? Last year we had an amazing hike to Giewont with our 9 and 13 y o, this year we are thinking about Rysy from Slovak side... Is this wish not too brave?
