This video shows an easy to understand method for finding the specific gravity of a glaze.

Your procedure may need some refining. Don't take note of container weight. Simply tare the glass weight to zero, divide the sample weight by H2O weight and that's the density of your sample !! ie: In your case, it is 187/115=1.626. A work sheet with two readings and a simple division gives you the result. that's it dear Amaco Brent !

Specific Gravity Worksheet


GLAZE BEING TESTED:


1. What is the weight of your empty cup?

Empty Cup Weight: grams

2. What is the weight of your cup full of water?

Full Cup Weight (Water): grams

3. What is the weight of your cup full of glaze?

Full Cup Weight (Glaze): grams

4. Volume= [Full Cup Weight (Water)]- [Empty Cup Weight]

Volume: mL (it will be the same measurement in grams because it is water)

5. Material Weight= [Full Cup Weight (Glaze)] - [Empty Cup Weight]

Material Weight: grams

6. Specific Gravity= [Material Weight] / [Volume]

Specific Gravity: g/ ML

Sorry this is unnecessarily complex and confused; tare to zero put the mark at 100ml in your container, weight the glaze and divide by 100 and thats your specific gravity

You are not a very good teacher. Luckily, I did not have you to learn from in school. You did not even explain and use the tare function to eliminate the need to keep applying the weight of the measuring vessel throughout the procedure. Amaco screwed up royally with this video. I wonder if I should just stay away from your product line entirely.
