3D Printed OpenRC F1 ice tires

Had to try and print Thomas Palm´s "easter egg tire" back in 2016, add screws to it and see how it handled on ice.
It wasn´t very good due to lack of grip on the front tires but hey, if one never tries one will never know. =)

you should also make the pins skinnier, pointier, and angled ...I say bout 25 - 35 degrees so they get a fighting chance at biting into the ice.

doesnt have the mass to make such big spikes grip the ice

Because it's 2wd, you should put regular tires in the front, and then put weight in the back.
regulare tires in the front because those tires have no propulsion so I did notice that they were sliding instead of spinning
And the weight in the back to make the spikes dig in a little more to get better grip
Just some thoughts...

For future reference try filing down the head of the screws into a spike to be able to get more traction

WOW..That's a beautiful place to live.

add some weight to the front of that bad boy and it'll steer

Sharp spikes on front will make sure the tires don't slide. Would be sweet to watch that.

I agree, more weight and possibly a 4 wheel drive RC. Makes a great ice maker though. You could bring some syrup down and make slushys for the kids.

the front wheels spikes need delicate sharp tips, long M3 screws work great with 2-3mm protruding

Take some large C-clips, bevel the edge (to make it a blade), and make some grooved wheels.
2 on each wheel and that should work quite well. Make sure the open points are opposite of each other.

Maybe use piston rings since they'll be a bit harder, but the engine they're from would have to be pretty small.

With RWD you gotta do reverse logic than you did, more weight on back, less in front, more grip tires back, less grip in front, this way you get more control and car doesnt spin in spot :) good work tho!

Make attachments to front wheels turning them into skates, these will turn the car a lot better, and smaller, sharper and more spikes for the back

Imho they don't have as much effect with plastic tyres. Try printing them in rubber this year, I think it will give alot better results :). Both on street and ice (with studs).

Jag har samma kontroll, fast svart. Good shit!

maybe incline the screw angle by 5-10 degrees facing back on rear and forward on front? just a spike facing straight out only works better with rubber tyre and suitable compression load.

Yeah smaller, sharper screws on the rear in a more closely staggered pattern so will grip and push better. I'd like to see a front tyre swap to some kind of scaled down ice skate blade. Like a chamfered razor blade or something similar. Then ya cooking on ice.

screws are extruding too far from the tires, make them closer to the actual tread, and add more. Increase surface area of contact between the car and the ice :)

try self taping wood screws, they have a sharper point, and adding more weight would help

Replace front wheels with some sleds or ice skating blades. Oh and use more spikes that are also smaller.

You need to print a set of skis for the front with a razor sharp skeg on the bottom so she'll steer.
