Cops Warn of 'Bank Jugging' During Holiday Shopping Season

Police say they are seeing more “bank jugging” crimes this busy holiday shopping season. Thieves target someone leaving a bank with lots of cash, follow them to their next location, create a ruse to distract them and then steal their money. A driver says she withdrew $20,000 from a bank to make a down payment on a house. Police believe she was eyeballed at the bank by the people in a car who later robbed her. Officer Ryan Railsback has some tips for holiday shoppers to not fall victim to “bank jugging.”

There is no reason to be carrying around huge sums of cash in today's world. I stopped doing that more than 10 years ago and I was behind the times even then.

Definitely don't leave that amount of cash unattended and put your cash in your front pockets and pretend like you didn't hear someone tell you dropped money. Tell them to keep it and drive off to play it safe. Definitely park at a police station or go inside the nearest police station if you feel you're being followed.

Part of the problem is tellers counting out loud. Elderly lady in gas station tonight won $100 on lottery. Cashier counted out loud. Half dozen people in line knew what she was walking out with. TARGET 🎯

The easiest way to prevent this is by NOT carrying physical tender and having your card locked at all times unless you intend to make a purchase, and then lock it immediately afterwards.

What was the common denominator in these two robberies? 1) They were both alone. Never go to the bank alone if you have to withdraw a large amount of money. 2) They left the money in the car. NEVER leave anything in your car. If you must have that kind of money on you, (ladies) make sure you carry a crossover body purse or wallet to keep your cash ON YOUR PERSON at all times. 3) They got cash. Always get a check or money order if you have to get that much money for a single purchase. If you have to make more than one purchase, get more than one check or money order. I know banks charge their customers for money orders these days, but it is less expensive than possibly losing ALL of your money. I hope these tips help someone not to get robbed.

#4 ask why these people know that lady took our 20k from the bank, that's way too much for an ATM, is there someone working with the criminals inside the bank? do they have lookouts in the bank?
