Speaker Biography: Scott G. Weiner, MD, MPH, FACEP, FAAEM is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Director of the Division of Health Policy and Public Health in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is board-certified in emergency medicine and addiction medicine. He is the Director of B-CORE: The Brigham Comprehensive Opioid Response and Education Program, a hospital-wide, multi-disciplinary project with the goal of reducing opioid-related morbidity and mortality. He is the co-lead of the American College of Emergency Physicians’ E-QUAL Opioid Initiative. Dr. Weiner completed his residency training at the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and MPH degree at Harvard School of Public Health. He is a past president of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians. His NIDA-funded research is identifying risk factors for develop of opioid overdose, and he is interested in technological solutions that increase access to evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders.

Webinar Abstract: Most hospital systems have implemented opioid-related stewardship programs. That is an important first step. This talk will take that work to the next level, describing four advanced concepts in opioid stewardship. Attendees will learn cutting edge techniques for creation of metrics, dashboards and clinical decision tools, addressing post-operative opioid prescribing, implementing a high-dose opioid tapering program, and treating substance use disorder.
