Hi everyone! A lot of people have asked about the dogs in this collision and I can confirm that they were fine straight after the accident. The passenger went into shock immediately but was okay a couple of days later. The driver had a torn lung lining and a number of other injuries. The lady in the car that overtook didn't have a hair out of place. Please be respectful with your comments as the good people who sent in the footage did so trusting me to use the clip to educate.

As I've always said, and this is aimed at the driver doing the dangerous overtake, it's better to lose 3 seconds of your life than your life in 3 seconds

That person overtaking is an absolute idiot, overtaking on a blind rise/corner. You are absolutely right: if the viewer was on a bike they'd be dead. Also, great commentary regarding the dogs. That's something I've actually not prepared for myself and will be making adjustments 👍🏻

This exact same thing happened to my husband and I on the first day of our honeymoon. It was awlful. I was winded from the impact too .. thought my lungs had totally collapsed. Months of pain followed from internal bruising from the seatbelts but they saved our lives. My hubby. was injured too and the force pushed the steering wheel upwards and it was touching the windscreen. Our dog was also injured but recovered. Thankfully 25 years later we are both still alive and kicking and happily married 🙂

Amazing reactions from the driver. Less than 3 seconds and he slowed the car so much. Credit where it's due, even after the crash he was so calm and collected. Amazing.

As the survivor of a “horrific” (words of the first responding EMT’s) head on crash with a drunk/drugged driver.. this video brought back memories… I’m so thankful that they both escaped with minimal injuries and that their dog was ok. I have lifelong injuries. My hip was broken and dislocated, it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” I will have to have - hip replacement. My right heel.. is now six screws. My heel was obliterated from my foot being on the brake pedal and all those G forces traveled up my leg. If not for a skilled orthopedic surgical team, I would have had my lower leg amputated. My ankle was considered broken as well. The air bag and seat belt saved me but I cracked my sternum and had FIVE broken ribs. I was in the hospital for almost three months. It took a year of convalescing and intensive physical therapy
but I am back to walking (albeit with a limp) working and living. I can’t ever run again, ski or do any high impact activity but that’s ok. Please be careful out there and be patient in the roads, and DONT drive impaired.

Hi Ashley. I watched this video today, around 1pm. I made a note to be extra careful, as I was driving around Wales today. Something similar happened to me, today, a few hours later.

Around 4pm, on a road similar looking to this, but on a small hill. I was taking it slow, being aware that cars could be beneath the brow of the hill. I was glad I was going slow, because someone had overtaken at least 3 cars, probably 5, and was in my lane, like in your video. As I was going slow, I was able to stop my car in 'plenty' of time, without damage.

This video helped me significantly. It probably would have been what happened in the video.

Well, my ex-gf used to do stunts like this, including failing to see red lights and when I told her that her driving is careless and dangerous, including to her dogs in the back, she got mad at me for criticizing her driving since she was driving for way longer than I did and I just lack the appropriate experience to have an opinion.
I figured it's just a matter of time until she will cause the same kind of accident as shown here. Some people are just out of touch with reality.

My favourite uncle was killed in a head on collision. The forward momentum of his body and the seat belt stopping him caused his aorta to rupture, killing him almost (not instantly) immediately. The driver of the other vehicle was sentenced to 7 years for causing death by dangerous driving. He was out of prison in a little over 4 years. I will never understand why idiot drivers are let back onto our roads.

I’d just like to add my thanks to the couple for sharing this clip, it’s rare that we see what happens to people inside a vehicle in the moment of such a crash. It really brings home what just how one stupid mistake can have such dire consequences. I’m also thankful that they and their pets came to no serious harm.

Superb presentation.
As a retired Fire & Rescue Operational Crew Commander, I have been to many collisions like this where the occupants were not correctly wearing seatbelts and also before the introduction of airbags. They did not fair well if at all, as you can imagine.

This is why on blind hills and turns I have been slowing down my motorcycle to prevent a crash due to idiotic overtakes like this. Thanks for the footage, Ash, but bloody hell that was terrifying.

Just goes to show that it doesn't matter how safely you personally drive, some idiot can always take your life from you in an instant.

It amazes me some people spending whole paragraphs worth of comment criticising the dog owners, without even a mention of the frankly disgusting overtake by the driver. This kind of driver (overtaking on a blind corner) should be banned for life, no ifs, buts or maybes. That type of manoeuvre is only a matter of time before you kill someone. People who take risks which can kill on the road should be banned. Simple.

As a person whos been hit head on, I know exactly how the passenger is feeling. I couldnt breathe, was panicked, didnt know if what just happened was real or not. Its a life changing experience.

Having survived a head-on crash back in the late 60’s in a vehicle with no seatbelts, I can confirm those few seconds before impact seem to take forever to unfold and the image never leaves you. The driver at fault should never be allowed behind the wheel of a car again…ever!
