CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) gets separated from her family, she has a frightening encounter with Kane (Julian Beck) for the first time.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the more effectively spooky and financially successful horror films of the '80s got an inevitable sequel with this effects-heavy installment. The Freeling family is trying to grapple with the devastation wrought by the ghosts and ghouls that destroyed their lives. The insurance company doesn't believe their story about what happened to their house, so Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), and their kids, Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) and Robbie (Oliver Robins), have been reduced to living in the home of Diane's mother, Jess (Geraldine Fitzgerald). Unfortunately for the Freelings, however, their new residence, just like their last, is situated on a haunted patch of unholy ground. A century before, the mad cult leader Kane (Julian Beck) slaughtered his followers nearby, and his evil spirit has returned in an effort to kidnap Carol Anne. When the Freelings realize what's happening, they call upon the psychic medium Tangina Barrons (Zelda Rubinstein) to help them again, and they also receive aid from a kindly Native American spiritualist, Taylor (Will Sampson). Noticeably absent from the sequel was older daughter Dana, who had been played by actress Dominique Dunne; Dunne was killed in 1982 by her obsessed boyfriend.

The fact he was actually dying in real life really played into his character. He is utterly horrifying in this film. Well done Mr. Beck

He did a great job. I feel so bad for the actor, he looks deathly and scary because the cancer was eating him alive. Poor man.

Now THIS is what makes a good horror movie! No jump scares. No blood splatters. No over-done CGI. Just a scene in a mall. But Julian Beck's soft spoken drawl, his gaunt and cadaverous appearance (tragically the results of real-life cancer) conveys more menace than a whole army of CGI-created zombies.

God this guy gives me the creeps. You can feel the evil oozing from him and can feel him over your shoulder just by looking at him. Julian Beck did a great job with what he was given and you can tell he was giving it his all.

Give credit where credit is due: The filmmakers of this sequel realized that you don't need grotesque make-up or any special effects whatsoever to make someone come off creepy and otherworldly. Just cast a very passionate performance artist in the last stages of pancreatic cancer and let him do the rest. Brilliant move.

No gore, no bloodsplat, no over-the-top CGI... Just two talented actors (Julian Beck and Heather O'Rourke) and a few simple, almost naive lines of dialogues to convey a sense of intense terror and underlying menace.

Julian Beck gave us one last incredible act to cinematic theater. God bless you, you were always welcomed into the the light.

I had a neighbour like Kane. If I ever misbehaved, my parents would threaten me by saying they`ll get him to babysit....Needless to say my behaviour improved

I remember watching this when I was a kid. When I saw Kane I thought "Hey, it's the guy on the Quaker Oats logo!" And then I saw the whole movie. I couldn't eat Quaker Oats for weeks.

He played this role really well he scared the hell out of me when I was younger and to be honest he still does in this. But bless his heart for acting through the cancer God rest his soul

Rev. Kane made this movie a classic. I remember the scene with him in the cave shouting "come with me." Movies don't have this kind of sinister appeal anymore.

It's actually sad that Julian Beck died before finishing this film and Heather O'Rourke died before finishing the third film. They were both amazing actors.

That old man was scary as hell. That and The Tall Man from Phantasm scared me to death as a kid.

"No, Robbie, we are not getting a TV set!"
Smart woman. Shame it doesn't keep the ghosts away forever, but at least the mother is learning from past mistakes.

Heather O'Rourke died in 1988. Julian Beck actually died before the movie went to theater, suffering from late stage stomach cancer during filming. It's odd to think that both of the main characters of this scene are dead now.

I read somewhere that when Heather O' Rourke (Carol Ann) first met Julian Beck (Rev. Kane) who was dying of cancer she burst into tears and hugged him.     She is one of the most beautiful children I've ever seen, bless her <3 I'm so sorry for her parents but she's in Heaven now and her sweet face and specialness will always be with us in these movies and the other tv acting she did.

Heather. It breaks my heart she passed away at such a young age.

Omg, I had no idea of this actor’s illness whatsoever; & yet, I felt a strange overwhelming sadness when I first saw this scene. Having lost many relatives to cancer & a soft spot for the elderly, it breaks my heart. 🥺💔
