Director’s Comment - José González ”Open Book”

"This is the second installment in this story, the first being Calexico’s ”Falling From The Sky" which focused on the creature’s perspective in this relationship.

The relationship between the creature and José is like a love story gone bad. They both need each other but also know that the relationship has to come to an end. No one wants to take the first step but ultimately, someone does. For me, the creature also represents the dark and repressed part of any individual, the part that you might want to hide or get rid of. But at the same time, it is a defining component of your personality. And when it is gone, it might change you for the better, but also make your life a bit dull and colorless."

I think that everyone "carries" with something we don't like (the creature that is carried by José) and it bothers us. The video has a nice ending, because José leaves the creature, he somehow got over the thing that bothers him, so as we are supposed to do. It's a really good song, have a nice day.
