Idea: Strained rain collection from the roof goes to a holding pond without a liner to let water perculate into the ground. A solar powered well pumps water into the pond near by or even in the center of the pond. The earth serves as a storage buffer to also clean the water up as it is pumped into the holding pond. A level controller keeps the pond level consistent. The pumped water goes through water falls to aireate the pond and supply water for a vegetable and landscaping garden. We get 35 inches of rain per year. The ground goes deep with mixed clay and sand, moderate perculation. With this set up, a 50 foot deep well will tap into the water table here. The holding pond will keep the immediate water table higher than normal locally. Our home water well is 100 feet deep but water is found at less depths. We could supplement this pond with house water, even select grey water (washing machine only, select detergent). This seems to be the least expensive useful rain and pond combination for aesthetics and irrigation. What say you?
