For those unaware, John Byrne did art on Xmen from issue 108 thru 143. Issue 115 thru 117 or 118 had Sauron in them. First time I had ever read about Lykos. Byrne's whole run is just magical reading n fantastic art. Later on he would get co plotting credit with Claremont.


I met Byrne twice at conventions in 80s. I thought he was a conceited arsehole, but I cannot ever deny his run is my favorite from when I used to read comics. From old villains like Magneto, Mesmero, Mastermind and Arcade to new ones like Proteus, White Queen and the Hellfire Club. Oh yeah, Alpha Flight, Kitty Pryde and Dazzler were introduced. The Claremont/Byrne combo gave us Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past also.


If you ever sign up for Marvel Unlimited, I highly recommend you read them. Actually, 97 thru 107 is the build up to run, so be sure to start there. 101 is the first issue of Phoenix. It also had great art by Dave Cockrum.


BTW technically the new team started with Giant Size 1, then issue 94 on. The first few issues are OK, and include death of Thunderbird. That said, the run I pointed out is what truly put Xmen on the map.

Love your reviews, I pre ordered bishop Omega red and wolver, couldn't justify mre Deadpools, but that Sauron is amazing.

Hit up Walmart and Walgreens tonight. My local Walgreens hasn't had any new figures in a month or so. Walmart mostly had the Black Panther wave on shelf. One Widow n her bike.
