The 2003 Reagan's CBS series was canceled by the Republicans and forced to be aired on Showtime.

I’m surprised Ronald Reagan’s son did a interview for this

I’m looking forward to this. Many of the policies this man set up are things we are paying dearly for today.

Series had its strengths and weaknesses. First of all, for all of the righties calling it a "hit job, " etc. etc., it wears its criticism on its sleeve. You know it's going to be critical going in. There's nothing irresponsible about that. Just saying "hit piece by liberals" does absolutely nothing to discredit it if you have nothing to say about the specific themes it explores and the specific arguments it makes.

That said, I think the biggest weakness of the series was that it was probably an episode shorter than it needed to be. In particular, I feel like the theme of Reagan's fear of communism was explored in a compelling fashion but still left room for more. One thing I've always found interesting as someone who was a child of the 80s stage of the Cold War: I always feared Soviet communism because they weren't a democracy. Yet conservatives feared it because of their slavish devotion to trickle-down economics. Thus, the narrative that the Soviet Union was "defeated" in the Cold War only holds up if you believe in the latter more than the former (Sure, the USSR disbanded but Russia is more anti-democracy than ever). What role did Reaganism in play in our perspective of democracy today? I felt that question was ripe for more compelling analyses.

On the other hand, Ron Jr.'s assessment of his father's individualized humanity (*President puts his hands up* "Hey, look, all I know is...") was a compelling theme and explained a lot of why Reagan struggled with social issues in a way that didn't dehumanize the man.

I thought this would be fair and balanced but it is a hit job on Reagan.

I lived through the Reagan era and it was hard to find anyone that did not like and respect him. For whatever reason the world felt safer back then. We can argue about his politics and what worked and what did not but that conversation could be had with any president in mind. At the end of the day we are putting a human being in the office and we are all flawed. There is no perfect president but I for one thought he was one of the best.

Reagan was one of our best presidents. When he took office after Jimmy Carter we had 10% unemployment and 12% annual inflation. He did a great job by taming inflation and leading the biggest boom to our economy. These are ten key points of his presidency that were a success:
#1 He served as the 33rd Governor of California from 1967 to 1975
#2 Reagan was re-elected as President with the largest electoral college victory in US history
** Ronald Reagan Presidency – Successes And Failures
#3 He changed the course of the Cold War through the Reagan Doctrine
#4 He introduced the Strategic Defense Initiative
#5 Ronald Reagan played a key role in ending the Cold War
** Ronald Reagan And The Cold War
#6 His economic policy resulted in a considerable decrease in unemployment and inflation
#7 Reaganomics led to one of the largest peacetime economic booms in US history
#8 Reagan took unprecedented firm action when PATCO went on strike
#9 He introduced strict legislation for drug offenses
#10 Ronald Reagan is considered one of the most influential presidents in US history

Beautiful. I especially enjoyed his honesty when it comes to the Iran-Contra scandal in this short-clip.

Apparently this is a biased anti Reagan documentary. That sucks I was hoping to have a legitimate docu series on Reagan.

I hate Ronald Reagan. I hate what he stood for, I hate how he destroyed our country, I hate everything about him. I love presidential documentaries, so I’m excited

I'm writing an article refusing the new 'documentary'. I will do one for each episode "So lets begin with the opening scene. The first image in the ‘documentary’ is Reagan seated on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, recording a re-election video in 1984, with lights, cameras and soundmen surrounding him, the President taking stage directions from an aide. As ominous music plays, the viewer hears first from Leslie Stahl who quotes Reagan as saying that ‘You can’t be a good president without being a good actor’. Son Ron chimes in, in his usual cringe-worthy way, telling us that there were ‘strange aspects to my father’, and ‘knowing him as well as I do, this is kind of a strange fellow to be President of the United States’. And then Reagan’s former NSC advisor Colin Powell adds: ‘We made sure he never got off script…It was our job to protect him, protect him from himself’.
As so, within the first few minutes, the viewer is led to believe that Ronald Reagan was merely an actor, a front-man, a ‘strange fellow’ that aides had to handle to make sure he continued to parrot what they wanted him to say.
That’s not the Ronald Reagan that I have come across during my twenty years of research on the man. But then again, just about everything in this ‘documentary’ gets Reagan wrong."

America: Phew, the election is over. Maybe now we can have at least one normal Sunday dinner with Mom and Dad.

Can't Hollywood just make documentaries and historical dramas about U.S. Presidents without being biased all the time? Whenever the President is a Republican he's portrayed as a villain (except for Lincoln), and whenever the President is a Democrat he's portrayed as a hero. Why don't they just portray both the good decisions and the bad decisions they made while in office, and let the audiences decide for themselves if they were good Presidents or not.

If you can't see the similarity of the actual footage of "protesters" in episode 3 of this series to what happened on January 6, 2020, then you are doomed.

These are examples of Adults with zero morals or ethics.
They sold out their country's children for their own personal Greed. [one of the deadly sins]
Handing taxpayers money over to ruthless faceless corporations was great for stinking rich adults, but devastating for the children of the Workforce.

HAHAHA people are trying so hard to bring Reagan down it's become hilarious. This is something Rita Skeeter would have done to Dumbledore, after he died, if they made TV programs.
