Vintage Mego looks at Mego's brief James Bond toy line, based on the 1979 film "Moonraker". It is a toy line that had an incredibly short life and we explore the many items that never made it to market as well.

My youngest son loves Moonraker and would love these! If only!

I bought the Jaws and Bond figures in Australia circa 1981 but they were from a market stall not a regular retail outlet. They had a stack of them and I remember they were $4 each.

James Bond wasn't really a 'kid' thing, and adults didn't buy "toys" back then. Couldn't imagine anyone wanting these when they came out, but I'll take 'em now !

Never forget seeing the Jaws figure at an end of line shop in a local store in the UK. Sure wish I had picked him up. The lone star laser gun was amazing. Sadly gone but not forgotten.

This vid has basically cured me of my current SAD symptoms. Good old Roger Moore! I wasn't exposed to him until For Your Eyes only on VHS.

I loved Moonraker as a kid. Its over the top combination of space shuttles, laser wielding space marines, crazy gadgets and end of the world stakes fit right in with all the other sci-fi movies I was watching at the time. The only toy from the movie I had was the Corgi space shuttle & helicopter combo pack. I don't think I was even aware that the 12" figures existed.

If you look at the end of the previous Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' it says James Bond will return in 'For Your Eyes Only'. Such was the desperation of the producers to get on the Star Wars band wagon they ditched it for the only Fleming title that sounded 'spacey' with 'For Your Eyes Only' eventually following 'Moonraker'. After the absurdness of this one they went back to a simple spy story in FYEO and we got that great Citroen CV5 die cast.

Love this video! The history behind these figures is so amazing especially when you love the Bond Franchise as a whole too!! I have a boxed bond I scored for $60 Canadian and recently just Scored a loose complete Jaws from the UK cannot wait to get my hands on him as sadly he didn’t come out in Canada

I was beyond my 'toy phase' when the Moonraker movie came-out. Yet this awesome action figure and play-set accessories would have been my 'tipping-point' 5 years earlier to become a 'James Bond' fan.

It's strange that it had such little success... It's one of the really classic bits of Bond memorabilia this line...You always see it in Bond books.

I really like the line. Now something new to search for. That Jaws is a must have some day the Drax is cool as well the villians are the best in these old 70's movies. The guy with the metal hand in Live and let die is great. I wonder if these could be done now in a James Bond line with the monsters and star trek stuff they might sell now better than back then.

I’m a big Bond fan and love all the different Bond actors. Moonraker was a lot of fun and really holds up upon viewings. I would love to have all these 12 inch figures - they look really really cool!

My parents purchased the Mego Moonnraker James Bond and Jaws figures for me, as childhood gifts.
Sadly, both toys are long gone, but I enjoyed having them in my toy box as a child.
I would love to own the figures again, but finding them complete is difficult and very expensive, especially as I live in the UK.

Damn, I had no idea there were Mookraker toys when I was a kid! It was the first Bond movie I actually got to go see on the big screen and I'd have loved to have those items!

I've always wondered why a toy company doesn't secure the Bond license and do a whole 3.75" line. So many characters like Bond and Jaws, Blofeld and Odd Job, Goldfinger and more. Do SPECTRE like Cobra from GIJoe and have tons of henchmen and crazy spy vehicles and hidden bases. There always seemed to be so much potential here that was never mined.
I know that Bond has always been more adult in nature (and a Pussy Galore fashion doll isn't a good idea no matter who says it is) but take the toyetic elements of the Bond spy universe and build it into something that could have a long life with years of additional characters, missions and vehicles.

Never saw any of these figures here in the UK, or saw them advertised anywhere. I did have (and still do) have the Corgi Moonraker Shuttle, as well as the Airfix kit of it, and, possibly best of all, the 'Lone Star' toy version of the laser gun. I don't have that anymore - it 'vanished' with a lot of other stuff after I left home in the mid 1980's. I do still have the movie programme booklet, and a set of cinema lobby cards, and the annual. No figures, though. Damn I want 3.75" James Bond figures now! 😆😆😆

Moonraker is my favorite James Bond movie, and I've seen most of them. I have the Mego James Bond in the box, and I have Drax and Jaws incomplete with no box. I have not yet found Holly. I have only a few other Moonraker items like the Topps cards, the soundtrack LP (I love the Shirley Bassey theme song), movie program, View Master set, a poster, and some Spanish playing cards. Roger Moore has always been my favorite James Bond, and so his movies are my favorites.

I remember seeing the Jaws figure in my local Zodiac toy shop here in uk. Not sure why my mum wouldnt buy him for me, it must have been too expensive. Well, it certainly is now!!
