Holga Week! Why is it so loved? HOLGA 120N Medium Format

Of course I don't hate the Holga! Many do, and many LOVE it. So much so that there is a Holga Week each year wanting Holga Submissions.
In this video I take my Holga 120N out for a walk to take photographs of some boats and end up in the darkroom making some prints.

Hi Roger,
I have been watching your videos for awhile and never commented before, but I felt like I had to today. I have a Holga 120N and I love it. Light leaks, soft focus, multiple exposures are all just some of the things that make it fun. That's what photography is supposed to be. I have been known to mount my Holga 120N onto a Manfrotto travel tripod and the cost of the tripod would pay for four Holgas! I ven went to the extra option of buying a Holga 60mm lens with a Canon EF mount and added it to a Canon APS-C camera. No light leaks on a digital camera, but everything else was the same. Expired film is always interesting on a Holga 120N because you never know how the film is going to act.

Yep, I could walk around with thousands of pounds of top quality cameras and lenses in my bag and the pictures I end up liking the most come from the plastic fantastic Holga. Go figure! Folders Week sounds great!!

One of your videos convinced me to buy a Holga last year and it's so much fun. There are 3D printed shutter cable release adapters available for cheap, which I use in bulb mode so I can actually control the shutter speed. Love taking the Holga along with me with my Nikon on long exposure nights, getting alternate versions of similar compositions with the Holga, which have a mood of its own, which sometimes is preferable. End results in B&W almost look like an old silent film.

You make some great images with your holga. I've tried and tried and tried again with a Holga.
I've never had an image that l've liked. I know for a fact that today I’ve double exposed a shot too. I'm deving the film tonight - fingers crossed.

Also, I like the vignette tip with the circular dodge too. Great tip.

Contemplated a holga but I've enough old 120 cameras with light leaks, dodgy focusing and vignetting, that i forget to wind on as it is 😂😂

To answer the question, I've not jumped into the Holga bandwagon. That said, good photographs are good photographs, especially when they take advantage of the inherent characteristics of the equipment used. That's just a wordy way of saying "Cool!" I've been happy with results from a variety of Brownies. Folding cameras give great results too, and are available in bigger than 6x6. Thanks for another fun video!

I love Holga's. I took my most favorite images with them.

I have three Holgas (GCFN, Holga 120 Pan and the 135 BC). The GCFN is great, especially with Foma or Kentmere 400 and multiple exposures. I didn't have much luck with the PAN and the 135 BC was dead on arrival (defective film transport). I also have a Diana F+ which is also fun to use.

I took basic black and white photography in 2000 at my local jr. college. Even though I've been doing black and white photography since 1980, I took classes because I've never had formal training. I got lucky and had for my instructor Annette Fournet. She took her photos with just a Diana camera. A toy camera from the 60s, which is like a Holga. Bad lens, light leaks, all plastic. So, in time, our class went out and bought Diana and Holga cameras. Fun cameras no doubt.

I just added a 3rd holga to my collection (135BC). One of my most memorable photos is shot with my Holga 120s and Cinestill 400 D. Soft and ethereal; it really takes me back to the place and time that I shot it.

Have an holga 120 wide pinhole and i love it, yup electricians tape covering the edges but its very involving and relaxing to shoot with

I have several holgas and love them. My favourite is the 6x12. It vignettes a lot at the ends but has a lovely 6x9 section in the centre of the frame
