Trump's 2018 Foreign Policy: Year in Review | NowThis World

American foreign policy in 2018 has been called a lot of things (Isolated, Independent, Intolerant, and Inhumane).

As President Donald Trump’s second year in office comes to a close, how exactly has he translated his promise of putting 'America First' rhetoric into actionable foreign policy? And what exactly has it meant for the United State’s influence and standing around the world today?

Trump’s 2nd year in office has been incredibly consequential on the world stage. He’s done things like forming new diplomatic relationships with dictators and authoritarian leaders, isolated the U.S. from some of its historically strongest allies, and some, like South Korean President Moon Jae-in, even credit him with improving North and South Korea’s relationship.

In this video we’re going to recap some of 2018’s standout moments in U.S. Foreign policy.

On April 6th, former Trump Administration attorney general Jeff Sessions announced the Justice Department’s new 'Zero-Tolerance' policy. The policy resulted in the separation of families who migrated to the U.S. Since it began at least 3,000 children, many of whom were toddlers and babies, have been separated from their parents or caregivers.

Then there was, the Iran Nuclear Deal. On May 8th, Trump withdrew from the landmark agreement, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

On May 14th of this year — the administration made an unprecedented, and controversial move, when it relocated its Israeli embassy to the disputed city of Jerusalem, one of the issues at the very core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Then there was North Korea. On June 12th — President Trump met face-to-face with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. This marked the first time a U.S. president met with a North Korean head of state.

And can’t forget tariffs on China. On July 6th — the U.S. launched a trade war with China.

The Trump administration followed through on previous threats and imposed tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese products.

Hey guys, Judah here! I'm curious what you all think were the highs and lows of American foreign policy in 2018? Let me know what you think! And if you live somewhere other than the U.S., how has American foreign policy been perceived n your country?

Isn't pulling out of Syria good? Less US intervention? I thought Dems and liberals were anti war?

While I disagree with most of Trumps foreign policy, I am also not a partisan/tribalist hack. I see you conveniently left out the fact he withdrew from Syria and withdrew 7k out of 14k soldiers from Afghanistan. If you consider yourself an unbiased information outlet, I suggest you report everything he did during 2018 on foreign policy and not leave out things that don't fit your narrative.

I found this video to be quite disappointing. For each topic discussed, it was highly bias and offered a narrow point of view. I am not a republican (and certainly not a Trump supporter), but omitting + disregarding arguments from opposing viewpoints without proper analysis is simply poor reporting.

Saying Jerusalem belongs to Israel was like saying Tokyo belongs to Japan or saying Ottawa belongs to Canada or Rome belongs to Italy. The Israelis were the first people there and the native to that land

Guys what happened to objective reporting? I’m not a fan of our current president, however it’s scary how our media is being transformed into subjective opinions.

Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States.

Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality.

Trump was born and raised in the New York City borough of Queens and received an economics degree from the Wharton School.

He was appointed president of his family's real estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded it from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.

The company built or renovated skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses.

Trump later started various side ventures, including licensing his name for real estate and consumer products.

He managed the company until his 2017 inauguration.

He co-authored several books, including The Art of the Deal.

He owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and he produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television show, from 2003 to 2015.

Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.1 billion.

Trump entered the 2016 presidential race as a Republican and defeated sixteen opponents in the primaries.

Commentators described his political positions as populist, protectionist, and nationalist.

His campaign received extensive free media coverage; many of his public statements were controversial or false.

Trump was elected president in a surprise victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

He became the oldest and wealthiest person ever to assume the presidency, the first without prior military or government service, and the fifth to have won the election while losing the popular vote.

His election and policies have sparked numerous protests.

Many of his comments and actions have been perceived as racially charged or racist.

During his presidency, Trump ordered a travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries, citing security concerns; after legal challenges, the Supreme Court upheld the policy's third revision.

He enacted a tax cut package for individuals and businesses, which also rescinded the individual health insurance mandate and allowed oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge.

He partially repealed the Dodd-Frank Act that had imposed stricter constraints on banks in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.

He has pursued his America First agenda in foreign policy, withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations, the Paris Agreement on climate change, and the Iran nuclear deal.

He recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, imposed import tariffs on various goods, triggering a trade war with China, and negotiated with North Korea seeking denuclearization.

He successfully nominated two justices to the Supreme Court: Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

After Trump dismissed FBI Director James Comey, the Justice Department appointed Robert Mueller as Special Counsel to investigate possible links between the Trump campaign and the Russian government regarding its election interference, and any matters arising from the probe.

The ongoing investigation has so far led to guilty pleas by several Trump associates to criminal charges including for lying to investigators, campaign finance violations, and tax fraud.

Trump has repeatedly denied accusations of collusion and obstruction of justice, calling the investigation a politically motivated "witch hunt".

I’m sorry but if Obama had agreed the de-nuclearisation of North Korea exactly like trump has this channel would praise it as the greatest foreign policy success ever, it’s so biased against trump

Did you guys notice that how this video shows that Iran was complying with the JCPOA while there were consistent reports from Mossad that Iran was still in possession of the nuclear documents which were meant to be destroyed as part of the the JCPOA. On the other hand there were satellite imagery showing that DPRK had started demolishing it's nuclear sites ( one of the sites had been demolished completely days after the agreement with the US), but NowThis fails to mention it.
