Former Apollo 8 Astronaut Dies in Plane He Was Flying

Retired American Astronaut William Anders has died. The member of the famed Apollo 8 crew was killed in a plane crash off of Washington state. Authorities say he was flying the plane. From the Apollo 8���s perch, Anders took the iconic "Earthrise" photo, the first color photo of the Earth from space. Anders is survived by his wife, six children and 13 grandchildren. William Anders was 90 years old.

My favorite space mission - Apollo 8. Did you know the orientation of the famous earthrise photo was actual vertical - not horizontal. i.e. The moon was on the right side with earth on the left. Either way, a photo for the ages.

As much as may mourn his passing, this guy had a life. One of the first 3 around the moon and flying an aircraft in his 90s.

Can't help thinking he wanted to end it all no suffering in hospitals but try to make it look like an accident for insurance. Respect to you my dude you played the system either way and left us guessing. Went out like a true brave one and didn't let the suffering of your end days trouble your friends n family into financial stress or anxiety. Salute to you I only wish I could have the same chance to end my old age like this. Rip you legend

As an expert pilot, why was he ever getting into, much less flying, an unsound aircraft? I can't make sense out of that part. He was a great man who deserved a gentler end. Rest in peace.
