I don't think it's a flop at all. I thought the whole point of this series was to figure out what is wrong with the computer, not replace w/e ends up being the problem. I honestly was shocked when I saw that you were providing free components, so I thought that was a more than gracious bonus on your part. Just figuring out what's wrong with the PC in a competent and honest manner is more than worth it to the owner. That's just my opinion on the series. Keep making them and we'll keep watching them!

I'd call it a win here, at least you narrowed it down to a specific component and the owner can replace it. Only thing is GPU prices still aren't the best.

Don't beat yourself up for not replacing his gfx card Greg. The fact that you were able to find the two culprits and replace his motherboard - all for free mind you, is way above and beyond what anyone would expect. THIS IS NOT A FLOP

No worries Greg. I know that gut feeling you have. Been there plenty of times with that feeling and I stick to it. Appreciate the integrity you displayed and your true thoughts on it.

This is the best channel for fixing broken gaming pc components.

You shouldn't feel bad. People can already be happy that you not just fix the systems but even replace/upgrade something all the time. Replacing the GPU is just too much, especially when you already had to replace something else. You did everything right here.

when trying to power on a motherboard when the 24pin is partially plugged in, it actually fries the MOBO, @Bitwit had the same issue

At my work, we have an MSI Armor RX 570 that's doing the exact same thing as the RX 580 here. When RX 500 series dies, for some reason they seem to do this. Edit: as some people have mentioned, it could be a short. Maybe as a result from all the heat-cycling these less-than-ideal cooled models like MSI Armor and XFX XXX/Fatboy/whatever have had to go through during all the years.

Thanks for the integrity of showing the flops as well as the successes - I love this channel so much :)

The newest BIOS update for that motherboard actually makes it incompatible with 1st generation CPUs, so the motherboard might have worked if you put a newer CPU into it. You may have already been aware of that and used an older update, and in that case I'd say the loose 24-pin or the GPU killed the board.

Personally I'd also take the cooler off of the GPU and see if it's been modified or has any corrosion that would cause too high of a power draw over PCIe

Honestly its not a flop at all. You figured out what the problems are and replaced the main component (motherboard) and found out the graphics card issue. The owner is going to be thankful that you figured it out and he can replace the RX 580 with a 1660 or 3050 if he wanted too without breaking the bank. People should not come in to this thinking its a free upgrade of old parts but to fix an issue they cannot resolve. Love the videos and other playlists keep on giving us more videos please. Thank you.

Wow! This is the first actual real Flop I think. It is truly sad when a PC is in such a state and needs so much work. What can be disappointing that you could not replace all that was broken to get it truly up and running, I don't think it's a fail on your part Greg - you did a great job. I can hear in your voice and mannerisms that you were truly disgusted with the state of that computer. People do need to take better care of their equipment and it is a truly sad day when a PC is left really not basically functional. This was still a very good video and people will learn a lot from it. You rock Greg!

to me it looks like the GPU went out, and took 1/2 the MOBO with it.
Should stick with your rule and keep other compromised parts out.
If the GPU still 1/2 way worked it could of damaged your setup also.
not worth it unless junk test system. Great video !!

I love how thorough you are. So glad you verified the GPU being dead. And by not replacing it, you give him an excuse to upgrade!

You do so much for people on this series! No one can fault you for figuring out what is wrong and replacing a motherboard for free. You still made a great video. We get to follow along through the process like normal and now they know exactly what to replace to get there system up and running. Great job as always.
