What does decentralized science have to do with the government and pharmaceutical companies? Last month, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) stated that Starting in 2026, any scientific publication that receives federal funding will need to be openly accessible on the day it's published. And in the pharma space, Pfizer recently announced that they will invest 500K into VitaDAO, which is a new cooperative vehicle for community-governed and decentralized drug development. What does all this mean for the future of science research and publishing?

Today, we are going to talk about two issues with the current academic research landscape, and how decentralized science is trying to fix it. The first issue being funding of research, and the second being the publishing of that research.

My understanding of how all this could work in practice is limited, but I love the concept. A big step above open access, potentially.
