While on tour with Mike Stern the great Dave Weckl took quite some time to sit down with me and do a very remarkable talk about music and melody, expression, character, nuances and tiny details you can and should pay attention to to be a better musician. I've learned very much during this special hour and I hope you guys will take something out of this too.

Thanks to Dave for this opportunity and for providing me the live mix

Hands down, this is by far the best interview I've watched with Dave or any other drummer!
Great to hear such an open conversation about this art that we all love so much.
Dave is without any doubt a true master and such a great guy too.
Very valuable words from a guy with such an extensive carreer.
Very insightful and informative.
The camera direction is also very revealing...those close ups.
Congrats Drumtalk for the great job!
Made my day!
Cheers from Brazil!

First got into Dave's playing when I heard "Got a Match" by the Chick Corea Elektric Band when I was 17. Managed to go see them at the Royal Festival Hall in London when I was 19. Saw Dave with his own band at Ronnie Scott's in the early 2000s. Then had the honour of attending a one-day clinic - just 12 of us, and Dave - in 2015 and finally met the man himself! What a journey. What a player.

probably the greatest (into the depth) interview, explaining his way of thinking, attitude and everything very to the point, very professionally made questions

What a thoughtful person. His clinic at the Aladdin Theater in 1998 permanently transformed my entire drumming philosophy, and I appreciate it so much. Awesome dude.

A very good interview. I do remember seeing Dave Weckl with Chic Corea the 'Electric Band (late '80s).' I thought his solo was wonderful I remember when the time came for the solo to end, I saw where Dave wanted to 'take more' and I saw Chic smile and then Dave 'took off' again. I will admit it was fun feeling the end of the drum solo and seeing the smiles of the other players when Dave 'took off' again.

Glad to hear Dave's take on things.

He shares so much to help his drumming community enjoy our instrument. That;s awesome!

I truly wish our country supported our masters like Dave the same way they treat some of these pop “musicians.”

I had the amazing opportunity to hang out and study with Dave for a couple days a little over year ago. It was one of the densest learning periods of my life; it's amazing how good Dave is at packing information into a brief workshop setting. Dave's drumming has been an inspiration for as long as I can remember, and he's continually been at the top of my rotation of studies, both his written material along with his playing. Even given all of that, this interview is impressively rich in both its depth and its breadth. I feel like I have peaked a little more fully into the mind of one of my absolute favorite musicians. Thank you so much for such a great interview.

My introduction to this great drummer, was by hearing Michel Camilo's Why not? on the radio back in 1987, while painting my first appartment. At that time i was 19 and thinking: Who is that incredible drummer that i'm listening to? I was totally amazed by the energy, chops and sound. And the following speak would tell the listener that it was Michel Camilo at the piano, but not who the drummer was. I immediately called the Danish Radio to ask them about the name of the record and numbers etc.The next day i bought the Why not? album and In Trio, which also includes som great Joel Rosenblatt drumming. On the cover was incorrectly printed; Rosenblaff. So me and my friends would go: Have you heard about Joel Rosenblaff? He is also amazing. But anyway, i'm now celebrating 30 years of listening to one of the most inspiring drummers of all time, among Vinnie, Chambers Gadd and all the other fantastic fusion drummers. And finally i would like to say thank you very much for this great and serious interview with one of the most, at least to me, inspiring drummers of all time. And to myself: Happy anniversary with 30 years of listening to Dave Weckl. Can we please have 30 more years? Why not?

I see there are 39 dislikes and i ask myself: -How can you dislike such a MUSICIAN and DRUMMER? Absurd.

It's so refreshing to hear legends like Dave talk about continued learning, limitations, and what's going on in their heads when playing. Great job, Phil. I've got some catching up to do on this season. :)
