Make sure to use your hips as you punch, a lot of people forget that

Hooks are great but remember the most effective punch is a back kick 🗿

It’s always the basics that are the most important

Making sure your knuckles make a straight line with your forearm instead of a ramp is even more important.

Don't punch like this: uses bottom knuckles

Me: proceeds to back kick instead 🗿

Also, for people who is starting a martial art, train your back, because of it, your punches are more powerful and deal a lot of damage.

Hope this is useful

3 tips:

1. As in the video, punch with your middle and index knuckles, not only are these ones more pronounced and stronger, but they also fit with the structure of your arm, and it'll help prevent wrist injuries.

2. Remember that punching isn't just about your arms, rotate your hips, get up on your toes, your frame will help put power into your punches.

3. Stay loose, don't tense up when you're moving around, punching is meant to be quick and fluid, not stiff and tiring. Tensing comes in when you're about to hit your target, not throughout the entirety of the movement. You waste a lot of energy by tensing when it isn't needed.

I can't punch, so IDK, but Jack Dempsey says the way to get stronger punches is to punch with the bottom three knuckles, aiming with the ring finger knuckle, to both produce more power and reduce the chance of injury. This is also recommended in bare knuckle pugilism books. I recently heard (maybe by Iain Abernethy, but I can't remember) that either the bottom three or the top two will work to reduce injury because they will allow you to punch in line, and the boxer fracture comes from hitting with poorly aligned punches.
Martin "Oz" Austwicl claims, I believe, that straight punches are much safer for barehand striking.

Some people are really insistent on knuckle position. I really think it just depends on the angle of the strike. The ultimate goal should be to protect your hands while you train. You can't throw with power if you keep blowing your wrists up.
