ASUS ROG Phone II Hands-on: 120Hz and Snapdragon 855 Plus

For a gaming-oriented phone, we quite liked the ASUS ROG phone, and so much have other people, because ASUS is back with a second version. This new ROG Phone II sports a 120Hz AMOLED display, improved haptics and gaming controls, plus the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor. Along with a truly enormous battery and a host of gaming accessories (including a Switch-like controller and second display), this looks to be a serious phone for the gamer on the go.

Please make sure to do research before buying. I have owned the first ROG from launch because I watched videos like this. I will not be buying another Asus phone again!.

1) if you crack the screen, there are 0 places online or around you to replace the screen. Going to Asus it costs 430 dollars for a small crack that spider webbed in the corner. 0 frame damage, the order parts was digitizer and replacement screen.

2. All Asus phones for years have had the same notification problems due to their software. Look up "notification, Asus phone" and see the 1000 posts and issue. You will not get calls regardless of service, you will get text messages 4-5 hours all at once. Asus battery life software blocks apps and there is no way to disable it.

3) Customer support was HORRID. first time sending in my phone for the replacement screen and charging me basically for a new phone, about 2 week turn around. For the call dropping / text issue. This was a 5 week turn around with (I'm not exxagerating) 5 times getting a call 3-4 days apart asking for the same information. One time asking for an update and employee begged me to put in a complaint to corporate saying he doesn't have all the proper tools to help me. It has now turned me off personally of all Asus products.


The phone performance for "gaming" has been spectacular. Battery life is great. But if you want it to also function as a phone in any way or don't want to risk a shitty customer service when you have an issue... BEWARE! Plenty of other phones with specs that will overpreform any game out there.

The Joycon like accessory and the tv dock could be cool for cloud gaming/game streaming services. Depending on how it handles the graphics compression.

Has the Switch functionalities but not so much great on games. The mobile gaming market is still a huge joke to the avid gamers lol

So awesome. Definitely going to get one.

You can imagine the killer application being streaming straight from a PC. Like Nvidia grid and or moonlight. And Shadow cloud gaming. Which are still in fact pretty resource-intensive apps. Especially when running at very high frame rate. Which you can only do with this phone.

I’d rather get a console instead than a gaming phone. I bet this phone costs around $1, 500, with that money you could get a PS4 pro a Nintendo Switch and an Xbox one X and some games. You could even save that money and get the PS5 which is coming next year. But it’s definitely based on preference though, I just prefer a console rather than a gaming phone.
