Ghost crabs are fast. Ghost crabs are semi-terrestrial crabs of the subfamily Ocypodinae. They are common shore crabs in tropical and subtropical regions throughout the world. They live in deep burrows in the intertidal zone. Ghost crabs are generalists, scavenging carrion and debris, as well as preying on small animals, including sea turtle eggs and hatchlings, clams, and other crabs. They are named ghost crab because of their nocturnal lifestyle and their overall pale coloration. Most ghost crabs have pale-colored bodies that blend in well with the sand. Other typical characteristics are one pincer usually being larger than the other and thick and elongated eyestalks on a square-looking boxlike body. When disturbed they rely on either playing dead or running incredibly fast towards the waves or their burrows in the sand.
