I used to buy two dozen of these at a time for $2 each at an annual gunshow I go to, they were expired coast guard flares and the guy had bought a shipping container of them so they were dirt cheap, he had the smaller hand flares for $1 each, I still have a dozen or so of those laying around. The rockets make awesome 4th of July and new years fireworks, I launched a half dozen at once on a foggy night on new years a few years ago and it completely lit up the neighborhood, it was a beautiful sight. I heard cheering from all over the neighborhood after they went up, apparently everybody that saw them liked them too lol.

A different time I also had one fail to deploy the parachute and it landed on a neighbor's house about a half mile away while the flare was lit😱, by sheer dumb luck it landed in a way that knocked the burning tip of the flare out and extinguished the flame, I was super lucky on that one lol.
