I went to Action Park about a dozen times as a kid. I have a story for every one of the rides. I was 8 years old when I did the slide next to the 30 foot cliff jump. The slide launched you off about 15-20 feel up at a high rate of speed. I was skinny and little and ended up lunging forward, hitting the water at a very odd angle. I got a blast to the groin and experienced the worst pain I had thought possible.

None of the life guards could see I was in distress even though I was in deep water and barely moving. I finally collected myself and hobbled over to a cave to get out and was greeted by a bunch of kids smoking pot. Just crazy, that place was pure anarchy.

Man, this is like the best advertisement an amusement park could get. If this place was still in business, I'd wanna go.

I’d be terrified of being stuck inside cannonball loop

I was a decent swimmer when I went to Action Park, and that Wave Pool was STILL overwhelming. I was in the middle of it, and all of a sudden I thought, "I gotta get the hell OUT of this thing!!!" I was utterly exhausted by the time I got back to the side of the pool.

This looks like something I'd make in RollerCoaster Tycoon while sleep deprived and off my meds.

You know a park is really bad when an attraction that killed a person isn't even on the top 10 most dangerous rides list.

I grew up in Michigan but went here with some family friends while on a trip to NY in the 80s. I would tell my friends later in life about this crazy amusement park with these super dangerous rides, but people who were never there or had not even heard of the place thought I was embellishing the danger. Its nice to know I didn't hallucinate the whole thing...🤣

I went to Action Park many times in the late 80s, early 90s and you always witnessed something crazy. The place was different, insane, memorable and looking back obviously dangerous. I bungee jumped and went on the slingshot a/k/a reverse bungee and somehow I'm still walking. The trapeze "ride" was hilarious, there were bleachers set up off to the side so people could just sit and watch person after person belly flop or slam onto the water off the deck. One thing missing from the documentary is the volleyball "pro". Lmao!! Imagine a tall tan guy standing on a volleyball court with a ball and a sign saying how long his winning streak is and that you and as many of your friends as you want can challenge him to a game of volleyball, normal sideout scoring, 3 touches per side. He would stand there for awhile and eventually some group of guys and thier girlfriends, 6 sometimes 8 or more would come up and play him never realizing that the more people the worse they would generally play constantly knocking into eachother but it never mattered because after they tapped over a few points to the open side of the court he couldn't cover he would inevitably dig a ball up in the air, set himself perfectly and proceeded to jump feet over the net and spike the ball like a fucking rocket in the face of one of the park visitors stupid enough to challenge him. It was over from there, he rarely lost serve again and you could bet on another few chest spikes or facials. Absolutely not your typical theme park. I've never been anywhere quiet like it good and bad.

And yet the commercials were all over the TV back in the 80's and everyone wanted to go

Getting injured in Action Park is like getting a merit badge in the Boy Scouts here in New Jersey.

Went there many many times as a kid - such a fantastic place. I remember at the top of the alpine slide they had a big pinup board with at least a dozen graphic photos of burns and lacerations people had received on the ride, as a warning to be cautious going down.

This was a great place. I went there several times while in college in the late 70's. It was awesome and we always had a great time.

I'm from Spain, just discovered this existed and... God what I would give to have visited it at least once.

This place sounds INSANE like I’m from the west coast and most theme parks here follow guidelines strictly

It's about 20 minutes down the road from me (I'm outside of Pine Island, NY), I can see the place from my house. Went there a few times. Terrified me. I did do the Alpine Slide. And the go carts. And I think one of the "safer" water rides. Rest of the time I drank.

I believe this waterpark is known as mountain creek waterpark now. I've been before and it's far more thrilling than the usual waterparks you're used to. I can only imagine how much more intense it used to be back then.

I worked here in the 80's during the summers so I could afford my ski pass in the winters at Vernon Valley/ Great Gorge. They would send you to different rides to be a "life guard" everyday and you never knew what was going to happen, but you knew to pay attention to everything going on. Also, have an Alpine Slide scar on my right cheek from wiping out on a turn. That ride was insane!
