Luck definitely plays a role in coding interviews and, more generally, in technical interviews. But how important is luck?

I had an interview in which they asked "return the length of the largest BST in a Binary Tree"
Luckily enough, I had solved the exact same question one night before the interview :)

This is called “proactive serendipity.” It’s a level of luck that’s fair game for someone who has done something. For example: if you’re a shy person but your force yourself to go out, you might just meet a new life long friend, but that is a chance you’ll never get if you don’t even leave your room.

In short, Luck is real but you have to try your best.

I don't rely on luck, but I have found myself being lucky when I was over-prepared for something. So, being over-prepared and putting in the hard work (a lot of it) is what brings me "luck". Very nice video.

Makes so much sense, you can put it this way, the more stuff I know, the more likely I am to be asked something that I am prepared on, which means that I'm more likely to be lucky with the questions, since there are more I know an answer to. It's quite simple.

Say that I learned two question and my friend missed to study the question I learned, the paradox is that I was lucky enough I got both the question in the exam. This works even in an interview.

What about the times when you do answer almost all the questions, feel confident walking out and still don't get the job? What's the preparation for that? Dont get me wrong but sometimes.. it's just not your day..

I have an interview tomorrow, I was feeling that I'm unlucky because I wasn't able to prepare well for tomorrow's interview today and yesterday, although knowing that it's not about preparing for just 2 days, and here's the video telling me just that that if I've prepared well then I still might get lucky tomorrow. Such a sequence of coincidences for me .... luck!!!

This is a good video Clement. Short and straight to the point. Keep practicing everyone and luck naturally come to you. 😄

Yes, luck DOES play a role. You can prepare harder than any other interviewee, but if they ask you a question you don't understand, you're screwed

geat point I agree 100%, prepare well to facilitate your own luck

Can’t agree anymore. Prepare yourself more, increases the probability of getting lucky. That’s the point you can control, and should focus on.
