The music perfectly reflects Adachi's state of mind with its constant shifts...
-starts pleasent and sweet: Adachi's more innocent years in his youth, he was full of big dreams and working hard to achieve them, even at the cost of having a social life because he was told only by giving his work and studies his all would he reach his dreams. He'll have plenty of time to enjoy life afterward, and sure enough, it seemed to finally pay off as he was being recognized for it...
-then very somber: ...only to come in second place against those younger then him but had luck and natural talent and didn't have to work nearly as hard or as much as he had but still got all the rewards in life, and sadly there's no prize for second place and Adachi discovers how arbitrary success is and life is far from fair no matter how much you play by the rules...

-then depressing: Adachi is transferred out to a dead-end job in Inaba, his dreams crushed and alone with his depression, he broods over how everything he spent his life on was for nothing. How could this happen? What did he do to deserve this? Did he really just waste his best years on an unreachable goal? Is being born lucky really what decides who wins and who loses in life?

-it slowly perks up again: Dojima's a hardass, but he warms up to Adachi, he and Nanako welcome him as part of the family, Adachi feels the first shred of happiness in quite some time...

-the music comes to a somber halt: Yu is arriving, Adachi once more feels like what he had is being taken from him and there's nothing he can do about it. His sanity takes a nosedive...

-then very dark and sinister: Adachi has snapped completely. The world is full of shit. He's done being life's punching bag and he'll make everyone else feel his pain. No more playing by the rules. He relishes in his new power, because now, for once in his life, HE'S the one in control, anyone who wrongs him(or he perceives as having wronged him) can be instantly punished, he causes a panic and fooled Namatame into unwittingly prolonging the "game" by creating more victims while he subtly helps the kids save the victims to ensure the cycle would keep going and continue to give him that rush.

-depressing, yet far darker: Yet deep down, he's still depressed. Nothing fills the void left when he feels Dojima and Nanako have replaced him, nothing fills the jealousy he feels when he sees Yu and the rest of the Investigation Team having fun together, the youth he probably wishes he had and feels he wasted. Yu tries to befriend him, but Adachi is too far gone, now. Too consumed by bitterness and resentment to care, anymore.
