Why is it that most of us never seem to understand these when taught in class, until a video explains it in less than 10 minutes! While it takes about an hour a period to teach!? It’s a problem, that the place for learning can’t explain properly what a video can! Maybe teacher’s should be encouraged to show video’s like this more often to ensure we understand. Maybe seeing as how this is the technological age, we tend to understand visually through screens or something. The fact that teachers who are supposedly professionals can’t explain as good as these you tubers can is quite a concern. (Sighs)

A BIT THAT YOU EXPLAINED IS WRONG.

Zeros at the end of a number DO count because it represents the precision of the instrument you used to measure the value. Please note this.

It's not true that a zero at the end is never significant - it is all about the accuracy of your measurement. For example, you might measure something to the nearest centimetre, find that it is 97 metres and zero centimetres and write this as 97.00 m. In that case, the last 2 digits would be significant.

You're a lifesaver :) Thanks you so much. My math teacher gave us this homework about significant figures with a crappy explanation box. I was puzzling over it until now :P

For the number 6, 390, 273.400, there are 10 sig figs and not 8 as shown in the vid at around 2:30. Only trailing zeros in the decimal portion are considered significant which is a rule that was not mentioned in the video.

Just wanted to clear that up to prevent any possible confusion. Thank you.

What if the number is something like 0.301 and I have to round to 2 significant figures. Would I write 0.3 or 0.30?

What's the difference between, rounding off and rounding down? Is it not the same thing?
