The Original Pirate Super League

The Golden Age of Football in Colombia had war, destruction and corruption. (Long before Pablo Escobar)
Between 1949 and 1954 some of the world’s very best players would congregate in a brand new league with no history, in Colombia.
Tifo uncovers how a “pirate league” attracted stars of the day (including Di Stefano, World Cup winner Schubert Gambetta, and Manchester United’s Charlie Mitten), how an assassination of a presidential candidate launched the competition, and how the fallout changed a FIFA law
forever…

Guys congrats for your video. I'm from Colombia and all the historical background of Colombia was correct. I'm really impressed with the accuracy of all the events you talked about during the video.

I just want to say that sadly the death of Gaitán was one of the determiners that changed Colombia's history but for worse. "El Bogotazo" stopped the development of the culture, due to the fact that Bogotá by that time was knew as " La Atenas Sudamericana". And sadly this event marked the way of a never ending history of violence and division. But despite all of the already mentioned, Colombia has a very warm and humble people. And yes, I know Colombia's history during the last century it's all about blacks and whites.

Growing up my grandfather would always talk about El dorado or the golden age of colombian futbol. I really didnt know or understand the history of it until watching this. It reminds of him so much. Thanks for making the video. 🤙🤙🤙

I appreciate the little details added into the video that can go unnoticed. The churches portrayed when showing the map of colombia are the actual historical buildings in those cities, as well as the accurate portrayal of the currency at the time

It's comforting in these trying times to know FIFA have always been terrible.

Colombian league ‘can we please be members’
Fifa ‘no and here’s all the punishments’
Colombian league ‘fine then we’ll steal all the Peruvians’

Love it!
Just a couple comments on it:
Gaitán wasn't Bogotá's mayor when he was killed, that actually happened during the '30s.
The problems between Dimayor and Comebol didn't end up in 1954 with the Lima Pact. For example, in the Libertadores of 1964 Millonarios faced Independiente de Avellaneda in the gruop stage. The final match between both, which had to be played in Bogotá didn't happen because the Argentinian side never showed up, they argue there was a problem with the way Millonarios players were singed, Conmebol agreed and gave away the points and the semifinal to Independiente.
Greetings from Bogotá.

Charlie Mitten aka The Bogota Bandit as they would call him back in England after he left. Awesome video!

Great research, accurate information, and even the illustration related to "La Violencia" resembles Colombian artist's depiction of it. Truly quality content here at Tifo.
