I think that watching you has slowly but surely changed my habits over the years— almost unconsciously?? I just realized i haven’t bought new clothes for almost 2 years 😆 i’ve inherited some from sister and mum, traded with friends some, and taken some to the tailor’s to alter so it can fit my postpartum body. So weird!

I have totally been there with the “zero waste patterns” for sustainability. However, I hated how they look on me and I didn’t want to wear them! So turns out the most sustainable pieces are the ones that I love and wear the most, regardless of the scraps leftover. I’d be interested in knowing how you got on with the cotton thread - I’ve heard that it’s more fragile than polyester and can shrink etc and make hems bubble.

If you were a superhero your superpower would definitely be bias binding 😊

YES this is exactly my niche hobby! I do sew with polyester thread but I thrift my sewing supplies XD Can you please make more videos about "low-impact" sewing to counter the comsumerist sewing I see loads of on the internet? Yours is SUCH a breath of fresh air! Love it!!!

Oh god, I love a nice contrasting bias bind! BTW, the type of thread is usually going to depend on the type of fabric. If you use cotton thread on polyester fabric, or vice versa, when you wash it the fibres will shrink at different rates, so the seams will come apart/look weird

This is super cute! Whilst I love using cotton fabric It has to be said that polyester thread is a lot more durable so it is a bit of a trade off.

I agree! I am in that awkward time in my life out of college and learned so much in my new career that I haven’t quite found a hobby or anything and I like making things but am afraid of creating excessive waste. I never thought to look for templates/ patterns that address this! Thank you.

Solid points! I've often wondered about these things as someone who sews a lot but does not buy new fabric and you addressed all of them. Also, your dress rocks and I know it's going to be so well loved and worn. 🌈✨️

Not to mention you sewed it yourself so it fits you better, your more attached, and you’ll be more prepared to alter it if needed rather than replacing.

Cotton thread actually is more fragile on the long run it might be more sustainable to use polyester to avoid having to do too much repairs because of ripping of the thread on washes. Just something to think about!

This high school sewing teacher from 🇨🇦 says YoWzA… way to go Leena!! This dress is a total palette of colour!! You look pert and sassy wearing it!! Great job on the little sustainable extras like the seam binding and the amazing leopard skin pockets. It is FAB!! Ⓜ️ary🧵

I always have some excess fabric from sewing projects and just keep it for later, it's come useful so many times, even just small scraps - they're great for trying the thread when you turn the sewing machine on. (Or you can always use them as rags if it's cheap and lower quality)I also have a small plastic jar I put all the thread I cut off in so it doesn't just lie around and stick to the fabric, and I've collected so much that I can use it as stuffing. Though I never thought about reinforcing seams with fabric, that's a great idea and will even made the piece look much better.
