If you want a truly vintage Fender for less than the price of a custom shop, look at pre CBS Duo Sonics. They are surprisingly cheap considering Strats and Teles of that era are 70 grand. I got a 1963 Duo Sonic last year for $3k with all the original electronics. A totally mint one should be about 5k but you can find ones that are played in for around 3 all day. They had Brazilian rosewood fretboards as standard back then. Seriously underrated guitars and better than any new custom shop.

I still remember the first time I looked at a fender catalog lol. Wtf - how many models! You've made sense if it the same way I eventually did. Vintage vs modern lines. Then price tiers of vintage/modern by country of origin.

So yes, it would be interesting to see a vintage vid. Mim v Mij v Mia. Same with modern. Then maybe even take your favourite/winner from vintage and modern to spot check if there's any significant build/quality differences between the two.

The trouble with the Vintera's is the truss rod adjustment at the body end...which is a massive pain if you need to asjust it.

A comparison that I haven't found so far is between the japanese and vintera 60's modified. Their price range is similar and some 200-400 dollars more than a used Mexican Baja

It would be really cool if you would consider reviewing a Fender Lincoln Brewster artist series. It is such a unique instrument and one of the finest I’ve ever played. It really feels like a custom shop in many ways🙂👍

Av2 vs vintera for sure. That Olympic with mint is my jam. The av2 like that was literally one of the first stratus I really just wanted. If I can get a MIM and save 1k I'll gladly mod the shit out of that vintera.
