I was devastated once I discovered hashtags wouldn't show recent posts anymore.. they were my go-to engagement strategy on insta, small creators and I would support and boost each other's posts- that way I was able to get thousands of views ONLY from hashtags. After that it would even make my post into ppls explore pages sometimes... :( R.I.P insta hashtags I miss u dearly

I mostly post my art on Instagram, and I’ve used it since 2015. And it’s so sad how down hill it’s gone. I feel like once TikTok became a thing, everyone wanted to copy it, and the community isn’t the same. It used to be so easy for me to find artists

The CEO of instagram allegedly gaslit people on Threads not too long ago and honestly…I could care less about becoming famous or popular. I just wanted to share my artwork with everyone. I don’t wanna post every day. I don’t wanna make reels. I don’t wanna follow trends. I wanna make art.

What’s more disturbing is, that every single personal acts like they’re professionals and make their own rules. They probably haven’t even touched a canvas in their entire life🙂

Im so sad they removed the "most recent" post thing.. its actually impossible to gain followers if you are small and its also impossible to find new artists. I loved to go to recent and support smaller artists it was so much fun.

I don't have Instagram and I am partly glad I'm not in the Instagram community. According to my friends, the comments are always so toxic and the community is toxic as well

Big reason why I deleted instagram was bc of the amount of hate comments and toxicity in general. I have a bad habit of looking through comments whenever I watch videos, mainly bc I’m interested in what ppl have to say most of the time, but I end up spending more time than I care to admit scrolling through literal wars in the comment sections and it ends up putting me in a bad mood lol. YouTube comments are much more tamed than most social media platforms imo.

OH MY GOD, the hashtag not working part is sooo true, i stopped trying to grow my account because of that, i've been using that platform for years and got nowhere with it, so now i just use it as a "digital gallery" for my own enjoyment and archive for my art, it sucks but what else can you do

I created an art account few months ago and only got 3 bots followers and barely any like or view. I will keep on drawing and posting no matter what. Don't give up on art and never stop doing what you love to do!

the hate comments is definitely a universal thing on instagram, cos i've seen it happen outside of the art circle too. one time i was watching a very innocent reel of a lady making a cool sand sculpture on the beach (she said it was her job) and thought it was awesome. opened to comments expecting similar thoughts only to find the most vile, condescending, aggressive and frankly misogynistic comments. all that over a sand sculpture, jfc. it wasn't even slightly polarizing reel—people just love to hate. makes you doubt whether there's decency in humans left in the world ;-;

Social media for art has tons of problems no matter the platform but instagram is one of my least favorites. Tumblr is my go to atm lol.

So glad I gave up on Instagram. I usually get 5-7 likes from the same group of people, and while I heavily appreciate them, I kinda wonder what happened to the other 80% of my followers. I also dislike how often I have to post just so I can get more engagement.

That's one of the reason as to why Tumblr is my go to website to post my fanart. It doesn't have an algorithm that'll screw you over and it promotes people to reblog and scroll all the way down. You can also see how many people follow a fandom tag to keep up to date with art or other content. I love the engagement over there.

I am so done with Instagram, but I don't know what platform to go to instead.
Imo the last of your points is due to then changing the hashtag function. You no longer can filter to the most recent posts. This is how many non follower found my stuff before. Now small creators who do not get enough engagement from their small following have no chance to even show up there 😅

Ngl im scared of trying insta, I already tried TikTok and I had to delete like 50 hate comments throughout 10 videos 😭😭😭😭 tbh there’s no chance on having a good time on any social media for me XD
