use metal wool with smaller grit number to take of rust dots, than use that 0000 wool to take away every molecum of rust. U will need to polish it and protect it bcs it will rust again. The problem of rust it that wheel, and other metals like that, is iron covered with chrome layer or nickel and chrome layer. after some years the iron starts to rust and rust go throught chrome

I like to dip the steel wool into white vinegar. Cleans that rust up nice. Wash it down with soap and water to remove the vinegar acids.. then rub down with a protective coat of chrome polish.

Use some aluminum foil and braso metal polish. You will be amazed

Exactly why I prefer stainless steel over chrome. Looks almost identical but stainless is way more durable and doesn’t rust. And cheaper

Aluminum foil works better than steel wool. Steel wool breaks into little pieces, aluminum foil may shred, but not nearly as bad a steel wool. Use a spray water bottle to wet the surface for best results.

Use 0000 steel wool . I use it dry. 16 years of doing this. No scratches.time consuming.

I tbink you needed to start at a way rougher steel wool, and really take away a lot of the top layer. Then of course slowly work your way down to the 0000 wool. Like sandpaper, 0000 will only polish and not really remove much material

Should of wet the wool, & used iron Decon you would have had a 93% difference

I use sos pads, the same you’d clean your greasy grimey pots, and pans with. They work amazing, I bought a 20 year old chopper than was owned by a guy that lived next to the beach. The chrome was all rusted up. With an sos pad I knocked it all off no problem. And the best part is that with sos pads it’s steel wool but it’s coated in that high penetrating soap that really is amazing at knocking of grease grime and anything else. The guy in this clip gave a terrible demonstration of steel wool. Use sos pads, and really soak the pad with water. I could of knocked the rust completely off that wheel with no trace of it, dude doesn’t know what he’s doin.

Just use aluminium foil and hot/warm water. Hard enough to knock the rust off but softer than steel and won't scratch the chrome.. then hit it with an auto wax to stop the rust coming back.

You will be surprised.

That's an act of desperation. Use a good polish like semi chrome, or my favorite Turtle Wax chrome polish. The rust stains will come of, maybe not all the pitting, but you're ruining the finish in a manner that can't be repaired. Also like Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish.
