Two suspects have been arrested after a stabbing spree inside an IKEA in Vasteras, Sweden resulted in two deaths on Monday afternoon.
At around 1 p.m., IKEA staff shouted through the store’s intercom and asked customers to leave the store, a witness told Swedish broadcaster SVT. Police arrived shortly after the announcement and found two stabbing victims in the store’s kitchenware department. The man died at the scene while the woman later died in the hospital, Vastmanland police said in a statement.
A third victim, who was later identified as the chief suspect, was also found seriously injured in the store. He was arrested and taken to a local hospital, commanding police officer Per Agren said at a press conference.
The second suspect was detained outside the store at the bus stop.
Officials have yet to determine the motive of the stabbing and the connection between the two suspects and the victims. However, the two suspects appear to have known each other, Agren said.
"We have no idea of a motive," said Ikea Group spokeswoman Martina Smedberg. "There have been no known threats against Ikea.”
