I want a dumb mechanical washer with two speeds, on / off.

This is why I got rid of my Newer Maytag "High Efficiency" washer and got an old used one from the early 2000's that I TOTALLY rebuilt. New Water pump, ALL new hoses, new clutch, new coupling, new drum shock mounts, new "dog gears" for the agitator. For less than $300 I have a like NEW older style washer that uses PLENTY of water to wash AND rinse the hell out of ALL of my clothes, towels and linens.

I'd trust the older machines. Still have a drier from like the late 80's, early 90s, and it's still strong for the most part. Meanwhile we've already replaced two modern washers. Old stuff reigns supreme, is what I've noticed the past few years.

I have the one with the transmission. I had the same one before the current. Gave it to my daughter, and it is 25 years old and still going strong.

I vote for the LWN432 as my favorite. They are noisier, but they sound good-and clean better.

Recently got the TR7. Love it so far. Last machine was a piece of crap LG front loader that always had mold issues no matter what we did. I'll never own a front loader ever again.
