I'm not sure if it could really over take ethereum, its like comparing LTC to BTC, objectively LTC is MUCH better than BTC, but BTC snowball popularity is hard to overtake. ETH is also moving into POS and like you said has an already large community.

So Ethereum has scalability issues? but Cardano is not even yet out in the wild. It has a centralized controller. Easy to scale if you don't have to prove it.
