Making a Degaussing Machine out of a Food Processor - Part 2 - Finale

Everything you ever wanted to know about re-purposing a single phase induction motor into a de-magnetizing machine...

I need to de-magnetise some of my machine tools so when our food mixer went Tango Uniform I thought it was a good opportunity to re-purpose its motor into something useful for the workshop.

In this, the final part of the two part series I show you what would happen if you plugged the motor stator directly into the mains with no current limiter. We look at impedance equations in order to calculate the theoretical current that should flow in the motor windings and see also measure the difference in current when the rotor is present in the stator and when it is removed.

We'll also visualise the shape of the magnetic field using magnetic viewing film, and use a home made gauss meter to determine where the AC magnetic field is strongest.

Remember that mains electricity can be lethal, do not follow along with this unless you are confident in your own abilities. You work with mains electricity at your own risk.

Hahaha. I ate some pie and it was delicious, a true math nerd t shirt. Glad I found your channel with the planer scraping video, suspected there would be more goodness and I needed to make one of these. Thanks.

Testing the resistor against the capacitor would be a good way to show how capacitors help with power correction! A lot of the reactive power(converted into heat) goes away and there's more active power(converted into magnetic fields), with less current

Thanks. I was planning to do thee exact same thing (maybe not quite as fancy). This video was exactly what I was looking for for some advice.

Why are you slowly removing it from the machine at the end? Are there safety measurements I should look out for?
