Instead of typing multiple .parent().parent().parent(), you can pass a selector as a parameter. So you could've typed
tabs = that.parent('div.tabs')
instead.

Thanks for nice tutorial. Can I use same js code of tab system for wordpress? I tried but many problem occured like -- invalid function $('.tabs >ul li a').on('click', function()), also not show console.log('test') result in browser's inspect element console tab Thanks to advise.

i have error. can you help me with this.

it was said on the consele menu on inspect element.

What about the code snippets? So one can compare?! Barely got it working, finding out that the custom js has to be imported after the jquery (did you mention?)
Please distribute code in the future, so ppl can compare to what actually went wrong.

why not simply use .click() in stead of .on('click')?

This script horrible and to complicated. In jQuery you can write this much easier.
