In 2014 Palmer Luckey left the world of VR, selling his company, Oculus, for $2 billion dollars. So no one expected what just happened. 8 years later, he's announced a return to VR, with a headset that is literally deadly.

So why did he make a new headset?

Well, he was inspired by the 2002 novel, Sword Art Online. The story takes place in 2022 when 10 thousand players log on to play a VR game. The aim of the game is to fight monsters and reach the one-hundredth floor of a steel castle. But if players die midgame or take off their headsets, they die in real life.

And that's exactly what this headset does.

These explosives will instantly destroy your brain when you see a game-over screen. Palmer even has plans to make it impossible to remove the headset without winning. He says he made this cuz graphics make games look real, but only serious threats make games feel real.
