I know and love all of his songs, but the unrivalled intensity of "Il Niente" has always held a very special place in my soul since my early teenage years.
As it has already been pointed out in another comment, Marco Masini possesses a unique ability to "feel", sharply portray and convey the hardships of ordinary people that is absolutely unparalled not only in the Italian pop music fileld, but also in the country's intellectual (and political) field.

Masini è sempre stata molto profondo, molto introspettivo. Ha cantato dolori, paure, traumi, con crudeltà e poesia. Hanno detto che portava sfortuna...secondo me è solo che guardarsi dentro, attraverso le sue canzoni, è un processo che non tutti sanno affrontare. Mad Ang, here there was not an absent dada. Masini's father was close to his son. Marco Masini experienced a different generational crisis than his father and the previous, post WWII generation. In those years, the 90s, the political and economic situation in Italy was catastrophic; even with a high education (degree, PhD) you could not find a job, unless you had political affiliations, a rich father or sold your body to powerful people. Masini thought very hard to affirm himself as an artist, honestly, and without any compromise. He was an hero to those like me who chose an easier solution to that generation problems. I ran away, I emigrated to North America. Yo see I was a coward Don Abbondio and Masini was a brave Fra' Cristofero. A great artist, poet, musician and human being!

Marco Masini has been and still is a great music singer and author. He should deserve much more consideration in italian music industry and media but he's almost forgotten

What an intense song. You should know the awuful story built on him. At one stage no one gave him a chance to perform because his lyrics were too harsh, too depressing and they went so far as to say it brought bad luck. It took him years and years to recover from the bad luck label. However he was and is a champion in portraying the real hardships of ordinary people. He would have deserved much more success. Listen to "Ti innamorerai", "Caro babbo", "Che giorno è ", "L'uomo volante" song with which he won San Remo Festival in 2004. Pls, try to find english cc, it's worth the while to understand his lyrics. Greetings from Italy
