I checked out your video and saved a friend $3200 (05/2024). The dealer had quoted her $3300 and change. I'll thank you for her. Thanks. Took me like an hour. The hardest part was releasing and installing the clip. This Jetta compressor was located at the front of the engine and very easily acccessible after removing the plastic shield. I didn't even have to remove the belt or compressor. Of course I do have plenty of DIY mechanical experience but had never done this repair before. Even so ANYONE could have done it.

Thank you so much!! I’m so happy I now have cold air coming out.. good thing I watched your video before buying a compressor. I followed your instructions and replaced the solenoid and thank God it works…2012 VW Passat 2.5L

Just something from experience... If you have a genuine compressor, you should be able to match the solenoid part number. But if it's an after market compressor, don't assume the solenoid is the same as a genuine. You'll have to remove it, (take photographs of it) and match it visually. If you shop online there are dozens of these little buggers with slight variations. Anyway, that worked for me after getting the wrong solenoid.

Did this exact same repair on my 2013 model SE, saved so much by doing it myself, only bought PAG fluid, snap ring tool, Freon and rented the equipment needed (vacuum pump)
Easily saved me over a thousand like this guy mentioned…

Thanks. Fixed. Found the valve for sale at $30, two cans refrigerant at $12 ea, a new can tap and I had the gauges. A/C now down to 47 in the center lh vent with outer off. My Audi has climate control so I'm not sure how low "LO" gets, but its below 61f.

I changed it this past weekend. The car is seen to be cooling ok. The only problem I found is that my refrigerant is in 30 on the low side and on my high side is around 105 and 107. (it was between 75 and 80 degrees when I filled it). I think it has the right amount of refrigerant 575g (+or-15g) as the sticker says because I monitored it very well during the process.

1. There are several different solenoids available depending on which compressor you have. Pricing varies and stay away from the ebay/amazon specials. 2. Legally and being environmentally friendly you need to recover the R134A using an approved machine. Please don't vent R134A to the atmosphere. 3. The average life of one of these replacement control valves is 1-2 years. After that, you'll need a compressor anyway. This is from experience. 4. The average price to replace a compressor is 750.00 parts and labor. I guess a dealer could charge 1200 or more. 5. You need to either check the system or have it checked to verify the problem. It could be a number of issues. This is also from experience and applies to ANY vehicle.

I have a 2011 Jetta. My air conditioner works sometimes. Sometimes blows cold, sometimes not. Almost like the switch doesn’t know it is supposed to be on cold. I cleaned the filter under the dash, will replace it when I get the new one, but I’m fairly certain that isn’t my problem. Went ahead and tried to charge it, but it wouldn’t seem to take any refrigerant either. I live in Georgia. Can someone please help? Even if I have to take it somewhere it would be better if I know what’s the matter before, so I don’t get ripped off. I don’t have much money.

I thought I had found my problem when I saw the thumbnail… the hose underneath the solenoid has come apart from its connection on the radiator. I was driving, heard a pop, a hiss, and saw a bunch of white vapor shoot from under the car. Smelled like some chemical. So I’m wondering if that was some refrigerant hose like that blew off and released all the refrigerant and that’s why I’m getting hot air

I'm having a similar problem with my Jetta, it only cools while I'm driving, how do I know when I need to get the compressor replaced versus having it repaired?

Great video.. What is the part number of the solenoid? The one mentioned in the description points to the full compressor.
