This is at least the second time an Amtrak train has done this. UNACCEPTABLE! If I was calling the shots, I'd introduce a new rule: "Install Positive Train Control or stop operating in this country."

Technology that would have prevented this accident was invented decades ago. Amtrak has been using their version of it (ACSES) in the northeast for 20 years or so. This line should not have been opened without that system being installed at every critical curve.

If the bridge had been rebuilt for 80 mph, then the derailment would not have happened. PES is just a backup system.

Would the engineer have to monitor the speed limit and physically slow the train down in an area where positive train control is not installed?

Wait a fracking minute here. These trains all are controlled by GPS based computer controlled propulsion systems. The computer would have alerted the driver way before the turn that speed was over 2.5 times over limit. Something is very wrong here. These trains also have auto pilot systems that can control the train speed. Would a real expert please tell us the truth. Thanks...
