Bayang Toys - X16 Typhoon (Brushless) - Review and Flight

This quadcopter has brushless motors, but the camera is very poor quality. It's not very sport in its flight characteristics, but it is a nice smooth flyer. So, you'll want to replace the camera right away, if you have plans to use this as an AV platform. Otherwise, it could be used a calm steady flyer with the long-lasting reliability of brushless motors.

I think the only problem with the camera is that digital stabilization. But the image is kinda good. I also want to know: is that roundy antena for the camera? Why did they put it on the quad

It's a shame you didn't get the manual with it. To calibrate the compass, you need to turn on the quad, then turn on the transmitter without arming the motors. Push the left stick to the lower right and the right stick to the upper left. The quad lights should be rapidly blinking at this point. Then put down the transmitter and rotate the quad horizontally three turns clockwise, then point the nose of the quad down, and rotate it clockwise 3 turns along the vertical axis. The lights should stop blinking at this point which indicates the compass is calibrated. The RTH function DOES work well after you do this.

It's a shame you got the version with the red motors because I've seen videos of the NEW X16 which has GPS (sort of) with the black motors. This version includes automatic take off and landing initiated by using the right bumper on the top of the Tx. In addition, the RTH function will return to home and land, then execute a motor shut down using the bottom right middle RTH button. Here's the video I saw which shows the different calibration dance than the one used for your (and mine) version.


Here's a video of a guy in Indonesia who has the new version and shows the GPS working for altitude hold and RTH and landing.


Even though I already have an X16, if I can find the new GPS X16 for a decent price, and even though I've been incredibly bad (HEY! I'm a guy....get over it!), I'm going to put in a request to Santa for it.

BTW, I get 16+ minutes flying time on the stock battery using a good battery charger. 11 minutes as you stated is too low and may be caused by the crappy charger that comes with the X16.

If it weren't for the jello the video doesn't look too bad for the price. Maybe mod the mount and balance the props could yield a better capture.
