I Tried the Rover Side Hustle (my thoughts)

Ever since I founded "strollinwithnolan" dog walking in the 5th grade I've always wanted to return to my roots and spend more time with pets. Rover presented the perfect opportunity to do just that.

When my sister introduced me to this app, I knew it was a no brainer - especially since I was working remotely at the time!

In this video, I give my full review and walk you through what my first Rover experience looked like. Ultimately, I think I provide some honest perspective on the potential this app presents and how to best utilize it.

DISCLOSURE: This video was filmed in June 2021

I Work From Home and have doing Rover for over a month. I net a little over $1k/month and am booked till mid December and have repeat clients. I’ve also had to decline jobs. Definitely a need for more pet sitters in Las Vegas.

I'm wanting to quit my full time job to open a small boarding facility on my property. I'm thinking about starting on Rover just to get my name out there and gain trust in the community. My building, once completed, will comfortably house 5 dogs. I also have a dedicated outdoor/indoor play area. My hope is this app can really help jumpstart my dog boarding business.

I signed up beginning of May and passed my background check on May 5th. 3 days later I got my first booking and almost everyday after I got lots of booking request. I’ve watched 6 pets now and more coming in 2 days. I only do boarding though so I can house more pets. Such an easy job making money and still being able to do other stuff I want during the day. Heck I can even sneak a nap.

dude 33 dollars for overnight is garbage. It can take a while to build up clientele but, dog sitters can make from 40-60 dollars for pop in visits spending just 20 minutes to an hour with an animal and taking it on a short walk/ giving it medication. overnights can go up to 150 dollars per pet. i can door dash for two hours and come away with more than 33 dollars and i dont have to spend time as some well behaved houseguest in some strangers house.

Yes still worth it but the driving is hard sometimes. And making sure I have everything. Just realized I left my phone charger at home. I make $1, 000 plus per week which is great for low income earners like me where there job does not pay much. And plus yes great to do drop ins or house sitting and earn extra income. As long as the pets are happy. You need to be good with cats and dogs!

We've had two Rover experiences, both were unsatisfactory. The first sitter agreed to stay, visited us, arrived at 6:30am, and after we left for a memorial service in LA, 400 miles away, got a text that she wasn't coming back after saying, "I'm going to get some food for the weekend."

The second pet sitting three months later, and she left several days into a 4 day pet sitting, saying, "I'm not feeling well." We discovered she never stayed overnight as agreed, and wasn't there much for the dogs. She apparently was doing 2-3 sits, rather than just our agreed sit. Fortunately, we had a tenant who provided some assistance until we returned.

Conclusions are: Hire a sitter who is more mature in age where values of integrity, honesty and commitment are more often to be counted upon. Second, install some nanny cams to see when the sitter is coming and going, how they are or are not treating the pets. Remember, you're trusting a total stranger to be in your home unsupervised. Will they keep agreements, do their job as agreed? You don't know and can't hold them accountable without verification. Protect yourself.

Almost all of my bookings are for pet sitting at my house rather than theirs. I've made $15k through rover this year already. It is work when you have a house full of dogs.

thanks for the video - question - if I have more experience with cats than dogs, would it be hard for me to find work caring for dogs?

Hey loved the video would you recommend this for a college student coming home for the summer? And also do they allow you to talk dogs for money as well?

I was just approved on Rover earlier this week and already have my 1st booking for an extended dog sitting (not overnight) for late afternoon until early evening. I don't quite understand though why so many have their overnight pricing set so low? I see many listed for under $50/night.

Interesting! I was hoping it would be more walk focused but you mentioned overnights and long term stays more, so is that what makes up the majprity of the app?

I am licensed vet tech. I applied and got approved overnight. I set my profile but I think my rates are low for nyc. But I’m new so I am starting low then will slowly increase

This is awesome too bad I live in a smaller town not really anywhere near a city, so the demand would be a lot less I’d assume
