Chlefeli is a traditional children's instrument, scientifically called idiophone. Chlefeli can be found especially around the town of Schwyz in central Switzerland. The Chlefeli is played mainly by the school children during Lent, which begins after the carnival and lasts until Easter. The instrument consists of two boards, each with a notch. Primarily native hardwoods are used for making the Chlefeli, such as beech, oak, ash and maple. Robert Kessler started to play Chlefeli- swiss wooden clappers since his childhood. In 1998 he started to make his own Chlefeli by using different hardwoods. He also owns a collection of wooden clappers with about 240 different types of wood.
