Rat Worx MRX Chain Drive Automatic Knife

Whether the chain drive system is revolutionary, or just a gimmick, this knife definitely has some tactical charm.

The MRX automatic side folder by Rat Worx is a new idea on a classic design. Introduced at the 2013 Blade Show, this automatic side folder features a "chain drive". The knife has a chain that wraps around the base of the blade when closed. A spring inside the handle pulls on the chain when the button is pressed and the chain links engage the gear teeth on the back of the blade.
This chain drive distributes the load evenly across the gear of the blade and results in a consistently smooth operation.
Although not as quick as other side folders, there is little to no risk of the knife flying out of ones hands. The handle is sculpted in such a way that it partially obstructs the button, thereby mitigating accidental firings when carried in a pocket.

Carter, received the knife today. Was just like you described. Workmanship is unbelievable. Centered. No play. Powerful opening. Good lock up. It's a sexy beast. Thanks for turning me on to it. Been looking for an auto like this for some time.

Awesome, I saw this knife on TWANGnBANG's channel and was curious as to what other people thought of it. Thanks for sharing!

Also, side note, I think the machine they tested the knife on closed it fully and pressed the button to open it and it was the button wearing out that finally stopped the knife from functioning.

Was wondering about this one from the photos you had up. Very cool lock mechanism.

Damn you Carter. Another knife I just happened to buy immediately after watching your video. My wife is pissed at you again. Better watch your back bro. LOL!

Finally cought this vid, great as always Carter.  I really like to see the new mechanical means of blade deployment.  Seems this is new to me...  I have been collecting autos for over thirty years. Great to see it!  Thanks again.  Looking forward to your view after you carry it for sometime.  (The grit test)  should be good.   Thanks again...

Hey Carter awesome score!! Guardian tactical has an auto helix coming down the pipe not sure about that theory. I love that this knife is so sterile!!

I have been using this as an edc for a while now. All the worries about the chain are not true at all. No pocket lint in the chain, its very sturdy, weight and size are NOT an issue, and it is very durable. The black on the blade is very tough. Love my MRX 2 tone recurve.

Sing it with me "Little baby bicycle chain, full of lint and hair"

That knife is fantastic. The redundant springs are key, should you have a catastrophic spring failures when you need it to open, the other spring will do the job, albeit, slower, but it will open. As far as lint and hair in the chain, I don't see that as an issue, because you have access to it, it's not a mysterious internal part, the world runs on chain drive.

Darn it. That should say "opening mechanism", not "lock". You get my meaning.

Been really wanting one of these bad. Seems like the ultimate do everything knife. Seriously thinking on it. Noticed this was posted a while back. So after carrying and using it, do you still love it and think it was worth the investment?

I want to see the knife work after years of blood, mud and crud inside the works.

Just so many pieces/parts that can fail. It's different and looks cool, but it unnecessarily overcomplicates the process, imho.

Cool. But very gimmicky. I see no upsides to this system. it makes the knife bigger. thicker. heavier. ect ect. Maybe the mechanism will last longer but its not something that would convince me to buy it. Not to mention the chain will require a lot of maintenance.

I was torn about this knife and then I saw the price... pass. Definitely cool though.
