I remember watching the agony of the victim's brother who just wanted to get in to try to find his brother. They wouldn't let him in, and you could just feel his pain. Very sad. We all would have reacted the same way about someone we loved.

I think every Floridian was watching the live news, as the day unfolded the first time it opened. We were all expecting to hear how they were going to rescue that poor man. When the news came that there would not even be a recovery, we were devastated.

What a horrible tragedy! One moment you're peacefully sleeping, next thing you know you're most likely woken up by the chaos being swallowed by the earth.

Pssst.. the sinkhole will continue to open up no matter how much you fill it in, a sinkhole formed by an underwater stream slowly eroded away the sediment and everything above fell into the void. I'm sure you've all seen what happens when you dig a hole in the sand on the beach and you hit the water line. That's exactly what's happening when the water line underneath the loose soil erodes away the supporting sediment. Once it fills in it'll take probably the same amount of time until it erodes it away again

This is like a portal to hell. I lived in Florida most of my life and sinkholes are a common occurrence. I did not realize that they would continue to open up years later in the same location.

The cavity that is allowing the surface materials to funnel though is larger that anticipated. There are instruments that can determine the magnitude of the subsurface void. I don't understand why this hasn't been done to this point. The Karst conditions vary from location to location and the size of the subsurface void would help to determine the remedial action needed to stabilize this funnel type sinkhole. After 40 years of investigating sinkholes I learned to determine what I was dealing with before trying to come up with a remedial action plan.

It will grow larger as the walls of the whole continue to collapse into the hole and be dragged away by the water source. It may take years but the whole will get larger especially after hurricanes with massive amounts of precipitation entering the underground aquifer of freshwater

Out of all the horrible tragedies, the story of that Man perishing like that. Just, I can't process it. It's too unfair, nobody should go like that. I sometimes imagine that happening to myself, as I lay in bed. Terrifying doesn't describe it. May he Rest In Peace, my condolences to the Family.🙏🙌

Earthquakes, sinkholes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis are so horrific. It is caused mostly by nature, but human interference is making things worse. I wonder what the planet would be like in a thousand years from now. 😢😢
