Something a little different today - we go back to late January, just after the Tracksaw Workshop series has launched, and go through the time and costs involved. Originally released as a Patreon-only special, I’ll letting this out in the wild as I think it’ll be interesting generally, and because I want to show the kind of things that my Patreon supporters have access to. Enjoy!

Thanks Peter that was great. I had no idea how much time and recording went into something like this, I was thinking of recording some of the project I do, but it I'm honest I don't have the time to edit the videos together. All your efforts is much appreciated and I have learnt quite a bit in tip and trick from you.

I really enjoyed that series and watched it as it was released. But then I binge watched it to pick up little tips and tricks. I have had a Festool track saw for some time and really love it. Makes life so easy. I used to do knowledge capture videos with seasoned engineers and understand how much effort goes into producing a video that is under 15 minutes. Thanks for taking the time to share what you know. It is appreciated and I always seem to pick up useful tips from every video.

I binge watched the entire series Peter and totally agree it is the best way to watch it. I use the cross-cut jig all the time and the advice on setting up the saw to work ‘properly’ was spot on. Also find myself reaching for the tracksaw a lot more recently than I used to.

This vid is interesting in the sense that folk who don’t produce content themselves will probably have their eyes widened about the time taken to produce videos. In the three hundred and something videos you’ve now put out to the world, I wonder if you could put an overall figure time wise of how long it has taken to film and produce that content 🤔😳🤷‍♂️😂

I think I binged the series backwards and forwards quite a few times. It takes several goes for my brain to assimilate information, so I for one am glad you made the series, even though I came to it late!

Peter I did find that tracksaw series extremely useful, thanks for doing it! What astonishes me about power tools is the complete disinterest of the manufactures in how their tools work, leaving people like yourself to pick up the pieces for them, it is really odd.

Peter, fully support your decision to nominate your videos as non skippable ads.👍 The tracksaw series was. True master class - thank you. For the future how about a router table bid, with above table adjustment and cutter changing.🤔

4500 lbs, Peter "shut your mouth " its costing money, and we all knows what happens when you get extra money, i think everybody knows what a woodworker does , you buy more tools, so you can make more videos, so you can make more money so you can buy more tools, its a dangerous circle, careful Peter you ll end up with 4 table saws....lol

Also 2 thumbs up from my side for your very helpful series.

On top of that you come across as a very authentic person: someone who can´t be bribed but who is rather driven by helping others (btw a trait which I can truly relate to):

You seem to pass on your honest opinion and detailed, unbiased evaluation based on your many years of professional experience. Great! And since your video production takes a major timely effort I do hope that you will get enough financial reward in order to further pass on your invaluable knowledge and know how!

As for myself I recently started doing DIY woodworking stuff whilst being in the process of buying relevant tools. As part of it I have just finished quite a major research on plunge saws also including the study of various tests and users´feedbacks.

My research started from the cheap and cheerful Scheppach / ALDI through various mid range plunge saws such as the Triton TTS1400, to the very high end brands such as Mafell, Bosch, DeWalt, Festool.

Since you intend to do a potential test about plunge saws in the mid range area I thought to pass on to you some hopefully useful findings of my research (just in case you want to have a look at them and might include them in your test):

Apart from the well know Triton and Makita I have noticed there are currently 2 other very high quality no name brands on the market and which received quite good reviews:

Batavia T-Raxx Pro

Holzmann TAS 165 PRO

PS.: Since the Holzmann TAS (btw. Holzmann is a reputable Austrian manufacturer) has additionally got some excellent features such as a soft start, a scoring function, variable speed (from 2000 - 5000 min-1), a bevel range starting from -1 to 48 (!), is compatible with leading track guides such as Festool and Makita - plus it is being provided with a high quality 48t blade and it comes in a very sturdy alu box I finally went for this model as being the plunge saw with the best value for money.

Having done first tests with the saw I can confirm that the quality of the cuts so far is excellent!

Hi Peter truth and honesty always wins out

When you reach a million subs you can hire a Steven Spielberg to produce your videos...think of the Jaws music using the track saw...

Peter I always enjoy your videos and the content. I’m a novice at best and greatly enjoy the tidbits you share on your channel.

I found the series extremely interesting and informative. My first track saw was the scheppach which at the time, was what I thought was the dogs kahoonas, after watching your videos for a year or two, you talked me into laying out quite a few quid on a lovely MFT table plus the Festool ts55 and I have to say they are an absolute work of art, I am now fancying the makita track saw I am only a DIYer and really think I need therapy as I find it hard to justify the money I spend on tools 🤔. It’s all your fault Peter

It's a fantastic series and I binge watched it when it came out. I also dip in and out of it from time to time to improve the use of my own aldi plunge saw. Any of the improvements you suggested have been very helpful.

Peter, I absolutely so enjoy your videos. Your presentation is spot on and the 10 minute format, although sometimes is just too sort, is just a great format for learning just enough to use a tool or complete a task. Oh I would say my wife would disagree as your videos had caused me to buy the Festool 55 Track Saw.... too much me thinks for a total beginner, but hey I can justify as I stopped smoking several years ago.
Keep up the great content.

I don't skip ads unless they are the stupid long ones, because I appreciate that creators need the money.

Brilliant series. I have watched various parts many times. I went from never even having heard of a track saw a few months ago to now owning 2 (1 battery, 1 mains, both 'low' end) and 7m of track in various configurations of length and profile plus I've ordered an MFT top from UK (shipping was almost as much as the top but still cheaper than buying locally). Fully understand the advertising model as it's part of my day job and more than happy to watch a few ads if it helps you.

I too really enjoyed the series. Did the fixed ads work out better in the end compared to skipable?

Was quite an involved series that Peter, good work. True enough that most folk have little idea of the amount of time and money that goes into making content. I didn't before I started. I struggle to find enough time around work for one every 2 weeks! On buying tools helps give a fairer review, I'm undecided on that. Quite often, people will try and justify a purchase, particularly if it's bought for use primarily and review on YT secondary. This can cloud judgement as easily as not wanting to upset those sending you freebie testers or loaners. Honesty is always best. Personally, I try to run through what I do and don't like. Every product/tool has good/bad points. Whether I paid for it or got it free doesn't change that. I'm trying to think now whether I have any tool I'd describe as per near perfect...that in itself might be a good idea for a vid lol.

Hi peter.

Thank you for all of your videos I've watched as many as I can so far and will be checking out out all of the history of content since I started watching 4 months ago.

I have one quite informal question and that is if I sign up to you on patreon do I still have to sit and watch the advert? I'm glad I caught this video until the end as I only half watch it last week and decided to see see what the end brought and I'm glad I did.

Nice vid Peter 😁. Thanks for the sneak peek in to the world of patreon 🤔. I wish everyone could watch this, most people I know assume "a 10 minute video.. takes 10 minutes to make"...grrr. Thanks for the trip down memory lane... I haven't see that corner if the workshop for a while.... now the CNC has landed 😂🤣😂. Keep up the great content 😁👍.
