French Navy Hyères Naval Air Base - Introduction

Naval News takes you to the naval air base of Hyères on the Cote d'Azur in Southern France.
The operations started here back in 1924 with sea planes and the air wing of Bearn, the French Navy's first aircraft carrier.

Nowadays the "Base d'aéronautique navale de Hyères" or BAN Hyères is the only naval air base located on France's Mediterranean coast and is home of 3 Marine Nationale helicopter squadrons known as flottiles.
Those are:
- 31F with NH90 Caiman helicopters
- 35F with the AS365 Dauphin
- 36F with the AS565 Panther

Hyères is also the home base for the French Navy's test and experimentation airwing.
