I Slept With a Weighted Blanket for a Month - Here's What Happened

I've had problems sleeping my whole life, so when I discovered a weighted blanket made from sustainable materials, I decided to try it out! Here's my review.
I went with the more cooling "Tree Napper" that has a blend of Tencel and Organic Cotton.

How do weighted blankets work? Weighted blankets claim to have many benefits for anxiety, stress, sleep, and more.
Here's the video I mentioned more about the science:

Im autistic, and weighted blankets and weighted lap pads have been such a lifesaver. For me its more of a sensory input thing, as well as a grounding therapy technique, and i never stopped to consider people outside the spectrum used them. They do help with sleep, and with panic, and theyre also a great comfort. Just make sure you get the correct weight for you!

I was anonymously gifted a weighted blanket and I have loved it. I have Sensory Processing Disorder and anxiety disorders and it truly helped me not toss and turn at night.

Great review! After weeks of mulling over splurging for the Tree Napper, I went for it in August 2020. I too got the fifteen pound one (I am a woman and thought the 20 pound would be too heavy).

I am so pleased with this blanket. I definitely sleep more deeply. My husband says I am much less active while sleeping.

The blanket feels like a gentle hug.

That is an interesting product. I have used natural 100 % cotton heavy blankets for years and find them to be warm, breathable and comfortable. Having a history of using natural cotton and wool blankets (Irish tradition) I do obtain a better sleep when there is fairly substantial weight to them.

I was hesitant to spend the money on a weighted blanket (this was quite a few years ago, when there were only a few suppliers and you couldn't get one for less than a few hundred dollars) so my mum made me one out of an old bedsheet and a 20lb bag of rice. It's treated me well, but I might upgrade to something with a more even weight distribution and I'm glad there's a more eco friendly option.

I stumbled upon this blanket when I started to think I needed some kind of help. Husband died last June, leaving me feeling uncomforted on almost every level. I too found the blanket claustrophobic at first, and I was used to tossing and turning. The blanket stopped all that, and I could feel myself settling down; giving in to sleep, and feeling comforted. It was relieving, also, that I was buying and using something made by a company that cares about sustainability. So that weight, so to speak, was also off my mind.

I'm an OT student and lots of weighted, deep pressure items/actions are for people who require (more) sensory stimulation. I've always been a sensory seeker and I sleep with a pillow on top of my abdomen/belly area which helps me relax and fall asleep (studying for my boards). It's hot where I'm at too, but I like having something on me (like that sensation/deep pressure) so I sleep with a thin blanket and the pillow for extra weight. It's more commonly for kids with sensory issues, but everyone's body processes sensation differently. Reminds me when we had one day where our prof brought a bunch of sensory stuff and one was a weighted blanket and it was so comfy! (there are different blankets with different weights) Sorry for the long comment. Interesting take and for testing it, glad it helped!

I'm autistic too...and I "think" we are a little different than someone who isn't. It was 110 F the day I got my 25 pound blanket. Didn't think I could stand it because it was so hot. I just put it on my torso... Paid 125.00 for mine. No, there was nothing "mental" about it for me...it calmed the nervous system.

When i first got my weighed blanket it used to knock me out almost immediatly (even when i wasn't using specifically it to fall asleep like to calm an anxiety attack!!) Now after a few months I feel like the effect has somewhat lessened, but I do miss it on the nights it's too hot to use

I haven't tried one, but I think it would help me. I find it easier to sleep during the winter when it is so cold so I have to have many blankets and therefor it gets heavy. The pressure is so cozy and calming. I do not like it when the summers are so hot that I can't sleep whit any blanket. Always miss having something on me then.
I feel a little bit inspired to make one myself, seeing that it can be made out of only fabric. I have so much fabric that I have inherited from my grandmothers that I do not use, so it would be really fun if I could reuse it to something like this.

I work as a sleep technician and have had just a couple of patients telling me they use a weighted blanket. I think I’ll ask from now on because I’m just curious. However, over 90% of people who I meet at work have sleep problems due to sleep apnea (which isn’t always related to being overweight as it is believed). I’ve checked out this brand before and their blankets are beautiful. I love the color you chose! I’m sure it will be so cozy in the cooler months.

I am autistic and had 15lbs to start off but getting a 25lbs as I have adapted and the 15lbs feels light. It helps me greatly for going into sleep.

I have fibromyalgia and I’ve been told it could help easing chronic pain so I’ve been curious for a while, even though it seems counterintuitive. I never wanted to purchase a plastic filled one, though

I would be interested in a longer-term Update in this. Maybe half a year or a year from now?

Thank you for this review!
I live with epilepsy and I have found that sleep is just as necessary as medication in my case and I believe the same is true for others living with similar disorders. Additionally, my epilepsy is aggravated by stress so I am always on the lookout for ways to lower cortisol levels.
I also suffered a brain hemorrhage about 18 months ago which conversely made good sleep even harder to come by.
All that to say I look forward to trying out this weighted blanket which I am really happy to learn that it can be cleaned at home and even happier to know it is environmentally friendly! Without this video I may not have found such a nice item that is beneficial to both the user and the planet we share.
Thank you again!

I use a glass bead weighted blanket for sleep and stress. I think it does help with deeper sleep and feels comforting. Yours definitely looks nicer than mine!

The way to tell if its placebo or not, would be to not tell someone about the claims. Blind studies. If family doesn't know about it. Tell them you'll get them one under the condition they cant gather any info on them bc youre trying to find out some results.
