What is a “nothingburger” and where did the term come from?

A nothingburger is typically used to describe something that gets a lot of hype or attention but then falls flat upon further examination.

It was coined in the 1950s by Louella Parsons a Hollywood gossip columnist making nothingburger over 70 years old!

However, its use was primarily seen in American politics. One noteworthy example was in 2017 when Senator Ted Cruz said “The underlying meeting is a nothingburger” in response to questions by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Hopefully, this video wasn’t a nothingburger for you - give it a like if it wasn’t!

I heard Van Jones say it regarding the Muller report. But I wondered about where it came from.
