Introduction to Arrays in 3ds Max

Arrays are a powerful feature in 3ds Max that let you duplicate copies of geometry in various patterns and features (not to be confused with a more basic "scatter"). Smart use of this modifier allows you to build complex models quickly and easily.

Note: In this tutorial, Changsoo uses AI-generated voiceover created from his own narration of the actions.

00:00 - What is the Array modifier?
00:25 - Distribution types
00:35 - Grid
03:23 - Radial
05:19 - Spline
07:25 - Projection mode for Spline
07:48 - Surface
08:15 - Phyllotaxis (AKA: leaves/seeds/etc)
09:30 - Distribution spline for Phyllotaxis

These are excellent tips even for an experienced user. I wish there was an equally clear and good video about all the tools.

Array modifier feels so good to use compared to prior techniques. I'm glad we have it! and thanks for the tutorial

An extraordinary tutorial series, thank you for that. When it comes to the Array modifier, I wish it was a little bit more flexible, for instance, it'd be great to have an option to stretch the geometry in between the first and last clones or when using the Array by Element option. A small quality-of-life options like that which make modeling things like rooftops, boards or even entire elevation modules a breeze in Railclone, but it's quite a pain or flat out impossible to do just as effectively when using Array.

Extraordinarily wonderful. Now, we need Quad Cap _without_ plug-ins. Fantastic updates.

Great video! I like the Array modifier because it's so use friendly with options for distribution I'd have to build manually in other dccs. 🙂

This must be the most practical way to make different combinations of objects quickly. Great...

We need more features for splines arrays like those from Itoo software plug-ins

Great tutorial. Although array was too late but It came so powerful.
I have a problem using it. When I spread windows across the opening of a building using array spline and segment option. I use reset XForm to correct orientation. the spline has multiple segment separated from one another. At first the windows are straight up as they should be (not rotated around line). But after adding more segment inside spline or making a copy of segments with Ctrl+Shift some windows automatically get rotated specially for newly created segments. Windows are rotated around spline (tangent) And their angles are different. Moving segments a little up and down rotates it to some other value sometimes to correct value.

It would be good if we have Human voiceover as we cant connect with AI voice.

It's about time we get some new features! When are we getting a node based system for geometry?? You're getting left behind in the dust autodesk!

The AI voice-over is so distracting, it sounds like a 12 year old child. Even if the original narrator's English or intonation isn't perfect, it would be better than AI

Shouldn't this be a feature that 3DS MAX had more than a decade ago? You're only explaining it now. Have you traveled through time?

3ds max is progressing too slowly, too bloated, too fat, and almost dead. In Chinese job postings, it's rare to see requirements for using 3ds max software. Most require the use of C4D, UE5, U3D, etc. 3ds max has been eliminated, killed by its own self-righteous, pretentious interface design, and the mentality of not wanting you to learn how to make software.
